5 Game of Thrones Quotes That Still Leave Fans Cringing
Number 1 could well be the most cringe line ever broadcast.
Some of the dialogue in Game of Thrones was brilliant. The foreboding apology from Stannis to his daughter Shireen is an example of that. As is Dany's response to the slave trader after she handed the dragon to him and then revealed that she understood everything he had said about her.
But there was also some truly cringe dialogue that should never have made it out of the writers' room.
Here are five of the cringiest lines from the series:
5. 'To be honest, I've never really cared much for them, innocent or otherwise' – Jaime Lannister in season 8 episode 5, as he completely forgets the life-defining moment he shared with Brienne back in season 3 while having a breakdown in the bath.
Or maybe the thought of death just brought back the arrogance in him? I mean, it's weak writing at best. So ill thought out and rushed. The sentiment is fine, but this was a chance for a line that was memorable for all the right reasons.
4. 'I know a killer when I see one' - Arya Stark to Jon Snow in season 8 episode 6, as she states the obvious about Daenerys Targaryen.
Ah, yeah. It's kind of obvious by this point Arya.
3. 'You're my queen' – Jon Snow to Daenerys throughout season 8 as he pledges his allegiance.
How many times do we have to hear this phrase? There's a reason why you can get a YouTube video of Jon Snow saying 'You're my queen' for two minutes straight – because he just kept saying it in the show!
2. 'We need allies' - Jon Snow throughout season 7 to pretty much everyone he speaks to as he tries to rally an army to defend against the white walkers.
Another overused Jon Snow phrase. At times it felt as if the whole of season 7 was nothing more than the King in the North doing a sponsorship 'We need allies' to raise money for an assault on King's Landing. In fact, there's a reason why you can get a seven-minute YouTube video of repetitive Jon Snow dialogue that starts with 'We need allies'.
1. 'You want a good girl, but you need the bad pussy' – Tyene Sand to Bronn in season 5 episode 10, as he prepares to leave Dorne and return home with Marcella.
Get me a bucket! What the hell? It's hard to imagine that at some point, somebody came up with this line in a writers' room and wasn't mercilessly mocked for the next three months for even suggesting it. This is the absolute antithesis of the idea there are no bad ideas. It was a dreadful idea that somehow seemed to appeal to the other writers and managed to make it into the script and then, inexplicably, the final edit – seemingly without anybody asking 'Have you actually stopped to listen to that line?'
