Masterful acting and no hard feelings…

It's no big secret that most of what we see on screen is fake. But it's still disheartening to learn that the people who seem to have great chemistry on set are just acting it out and not getting along in real life. Here are just five celebrity duos who played characters with great dynamics, but weren't on good terms behind the scenes.

Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor (Silver Streak)

These 1970-1980s comedy legends starred together in a number of films, beginning with 1976's Silver Streak. Their sibling dynamic earned them the admiration of fans, but in real life the two actors were not on the best of terms. Richard Pryor's infamous drug abuse and resulting behavior didn't sit well with Wilder, who was celebrated for his consideration and work ethic. There was no animosity, but despite their on-screen friendship, the actors didn't get along.

Anthony Daniels and Kenny Baker (Star Wars)

The actors behind Star Wars' fan-favorite robots, C3PO and R2-D2, who were inseparable on screen despite their constant robotic back-and-forth, were much more hostile to each other in real life. The late Kenny Baker was open about their dislike of each other, stating that Daniels' haughty and dismissive demeanor and reluctance to socialize with his co-stars earned him a bad name among the Star Wars cast.

Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray (Dirty Dancing)

Before portraying a passionate couple in Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Gray worked together on Red Dawn, for which they had to take an eight-week military training course to get into character. Reportedly, Swayze's method acting was the cause of the falling out between him and Jennifer Gray, who was annoyed by his rude behavior.

William Shatner and George Takei (Star Trek)

The stars of the Star Trek multimedia franchise have been feuding ever since the original television series aired. In his 1994 memoir, To the Stars, George Takei revealed that William treated him poorly behind the scenes of the fan-favorite sci-fi show and movies. From ignoring him to making him feel weird, there were many things Shatner allegedly did that made Takei feel his animosity.

Bill Murray and Chevy Chase (SNL)

The 1970s SNL stars were notorious for publicly butting heads throughout their time on the show, despite often portraying friendly characters. They even had a physical altercation in 1978 when Chase, who had left the sketch shows years earlier, was asked to host. His arrogant behavior toward his former co-stars was upsetting, and things boiled over when Bill Murray called out Chevy for it and the two got into a fistfight and had to be separated by John Belushi.
