4 Severance Details and Hints That You May Have Missed Out On
Did you notice the Matrix references?
The second season of Ben Stiller's psychological thriller Severance has launched on the Apple TV+ platform. The mysterious project has puzzled viewers and critics alike.
The series still has a lot of questions to answer, but in the meantime, we have compiled a list of interesting details that are easy to overlook.
1. The Series Often References The Matrix
It is not surprising that Severance contains references to the legendary franchise. In The Matrix, Neo has to decide which reality he wants to live in – the real one or the illusory one.
The color scheme of the Lumon office details sometimes looks like a contrast between red and blue, which refers to the choice between a red and a blue pill, where red is the painful truth and blue is a blissful lie.
In Mark's living room, there is an aquarium with two fish – red and blue, separated by a wall.
At the beginning of the second season, the supervisor on the severed floor gives Mark a bunch of blue balloons, as if to suggest that the main character give up his path to the truth.
2. Helly's Outie Was Never a Secret
As we know from the first season, Helly is Helena Eagan, the daughter of the company's CEO. The woman underwent the severance procedure as a publicity stunt to increase public loyalty to the process.
Viewers learn about this only at the end of the first season of the show, although the creators of the project hint at the woman's origin long before that.
As the viewers were shown, even before the procedure, Helena had the same information about the company's founder as the security service. When an employee tried to tell her what Kier Eagan liked for breakfast, the woman replied that she already knew that.
3. Lumon May Have Suffered Another Uprising
When Mark talks to Milchick at the beginning of the second season, Milchick tells the employee that several months have passed since their uprising, but what if that is not true?
The company's new hires do not inspire confidence, and Milchick himself, who replaced Ms. Cobel, never got access to her computer. Mark and his colleagues are probably not the only ones who have staged a coup at Lumon.
4. Mark Has Made Progress in His Search for His Wife
At the end of the first episode, the employees of the division begin their work duties. At this point, not all viewers noticed that an image of Mark's wife Gemma appeared on his screen.
She turned out to be Ms. Casey, a wellness consultant on the severed floor. On his monitor, you can see the inscription Cold Harbor and other data indicating that the employee has completed 68% of the work.
