The news of a Harry Potter TV series has certainly caused quite a stir among fans.

This is due mainly to the current controversy surrounding its original author J.K. Rowling, as well as many fans asking why such a show is even necessary, especially when the movie franchise ended just over a decade ago. Instead of re-hashing a franchise which has already been adapted, why choose one of the many other books that would be preferable for a new show?

Here are four books that deserve a TV adaptation way more than Harry Potter.

The Kingkiller Chronicle by Patrick Rothfuss

Patrick Rothfuss's The Kingkiller Chronicle tells the story of Kvothe, an innkeeper and former travelling trouper turned wizard, who has been stuck in development hell for about a decade. There are already two books released in the series, and the final book, The Doors of Stone, is hopefully coming soon. Waiting until the series ends would be the perfect time to develop The Kingkiller Chronicle as a TV series.

An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir

Another book series that would make for an excellent TV adaptation is An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir. The four-book series tells the story of Laia, a slave girl, and Elias, a soldier, and their fight against an oppressive empire.

While the book series was at one point going to be a movie franchise, as a TV show, it would have more time to show how expansive the world is, show more significant development of the characters, and explore the passage of time in a way that would work better than the big screen.

The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

Who would disagree that The Chronicles of Narnia, the fantasy book series by C.S. Lewis, would be ideal for a TV series? Netflix also currently has the TV rights to the series, which is fantastic. Unfortunately, recent updates about the project's development have not been reported. Also, despite the previous successful movie adaptations, there is still much more to explore in the Narnia universe.

Therefore, a series based on the books could be an excellent approach to telling the whole story in a similar manner to other successful fantasy adaptations like Game of Thrones and His Dark Materials.

Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard by Rick Riordan

Considering the success of shows such as Vikings, the Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series is a clear contender for a fantastic TV adaptation. The books follow Magnus Chase, a Norse god's son, as he tries to prevent Ragnarok (i.e. the end of the world). The series is also linked to another of Riordan's books, Percy Jackson.

There is already much hope from the fans that the new Percy Jackson series soon to come to Disney+ will be a success. Hopefully, this will also increase the chances of more Riordan's books being adapted for TV.
