Liam fought for the opportunity to jumpstart his career.

Of all the dystopian franchises of the 2010s, The Hunger Games resonated most with the audiences, and many people are still rewatching the film series and eagerly awaiting the prequel movie, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, to come out in November this year.

The film series' success was certainly facilitated by great casting, as the lead actors Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, and Josh Hutcherson all looked very natural in their roles and gave the best possible performances. But while Lawrence and Hutcherson were cast in the films from the start, Hemsworth was forced to compete for his role with other promising actors.

In the Hunger Games movies, Liam Hemsworth portrayed Gale Hawthorne, Katniss' best friend. While the character didn't have much screen time in the first film, he became much more prominent in the later installments, so the role was coveted by many young actors at the time.

Here are three stars who almost stole Liam's role:

David Henrie

While this Disney Channel star is rarely remembered today, David Henrie was considered a promising actor at the time. After starring alongside Selena Gomez in the hit series Wizards of Waverly Place, David apparently decided to aim higher, hoping to be cast as Gale in The Hunger Games, but lost out to Liam. Since then, the actor never mentioned auditioning for the franchise, which fans take as a sign of regret.

Robbie Amell

The Flash's Robbie Amell boldly announced that he was going to land the role of Gale in The Hunger Games, proving that he was a serious contender for the part. Even though he lost the role to Hemsworth, he went on to make his mark in Hollywood, starring in dozens of hit movies and TV shows.

Drew Roy

Hannah Montana's Drew Roy was one of the most popular cast choices for the role of Gale, as the actor's fans rallied for him to join The Hunger Games. Although it was never officially confirmed by the producers or Roy himself, it looks like he was in consideration for quite some time before losing out the role to Liam Hemsworth. Drew Roy is still in the business and working hard, but Liam is obviously miles ahead of him in terms of stardom.
