Sheridan's Latest is a Must-See.

There's no denying that writer Taylor Sheridan has single-handedly made Paramount + a streaming service worth subscribing to with shows like Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, and Tulsa King. Paramount's executives are certainly more than happy to give the creator free rein with the upcoming Western Lawmen: Bass Reeves, which might be the most unique project the writer has ever tackled.

While it's clear that all fans of Sheridan's work will be tuning into this show, this neo-western might also be worth checking out for those who aren't fans of the writer's other shows or Westerns in general.

Here are three reasons to watch Bass Reeves:

It's Based On An Incredible True Story

Unknown to many, Bass Reeves is one of the unsung heroes of American history. Born into slavery, he later became the first black U.S. Marshal. During his tenure upholding the law, this iconic lawman found himself on numerous incredible adventures. His skill with a gun and deep knowledge of Native American dialects made him a legend while he was still alive.

It's Oyelowo's Dream Project

Shortly after David Oyelowo got his big Hollywood break in 2014 with Selma, he began dreaming of playing Bass Reeves, whom he regarded as his role model. The actor spent nearly a decade pitching the idea to various producers, and it wasn't until he met Sheridan that things got underway. Given his passion, it's undeniable that Oyelowo will pour his heart and soul into playing Bass, and the results will likely be Emmy-worthy.

The Show Is Replete With Great Actors

In addition to Oyelowo, a plethora of other great actors have been cast in Lawmen, with big names like Demi Singleton, Donald Sutherland, Garrett Hedlund, Dale Dickey, and Shea Whigham announced to be starring in the show. Even more exciting, Sheridan has decided to cast up-and-coming Native American actor Forrest Goodluck in the second lead role, which will surely give the actor the big break he has long deserved.

Lawmen: Bass Reeves will be released later this year on Paramount +.
