We're still unsure about the future of several beloved characters.

Chicago Fire has been renewed for Season 12, and while fans are eagerly waiting for the new installment to premiere (hopefully) in the fall of this year, many people are concerned about the fate of some of the series' beloved characters. Which Chicago Fire stars will likely return to the project, and which are going to call it quits after Season 11 or at some point in Season 12?

There are at least three actors who are unlikely to reprise their roles in Chicago Fire. But before we look at them, these seven stars are expected to be part of the new installment, based on their characters' arcs in the previous season:

Eamonn Walker (Wallace Boden)

David Eigenberg (Christopher Herrmann)

Miranda Rae Mayo (Stella Kidd)

Joe Minoso (Joe Cruz)

Daniel Kyri (Darren Ritter)

Alberto Rosende (Blake Gallo)

Hanako Greensmith (Violet Mikami)

Neither the finale nor the events of Season 11 gave any indication that these characters would be written out of the script, so we can totally expect the actors to reprise their roles in Chicago Fire Season 12. Now, let's look at three cast members who have fewer chances of appearing in the show's upcoming installment.

Christian Stolte (Randall McHolland)

Stolte's fan-favorite character Mouch was shot by a sniper in the final episode of Season 11. His condition improved when he arrived at the hospital, and Mouch even shared a laugh with Hermann before he suddenly fainted from his injuries. Fans believe that the character will appear again in Episode 1 of the new season, but we can't be sure that he'll make it much further than that.

Jesse Spencer (Matt Casey)

Fans were thrilled to see Jesse Spencer's guest appearance in Chicago Fire Season 11, as his character, Matt Casey, returned to Firehouse 51 for a special mission. Now that Matt has proposed to ex-girlfriend Sylvie Brett, the writers can either continue or conclude his storyline in Season 12 — they can either bring Matt back as the series' central character or remove him and Sylvie from the story completely, allowing them to leave Chicago for Portland.

Taylor Kinney (Kelly Severide)

Yes, the fate of this character is definitely the most intriguing. Taylor Kinney's Severide was written out of the script after the actor left the project indefinitely in January 2023 due to undisclosed personal reasons. Severide was sent to complete an arson investigation course in Alabama, and although his wife, Stella Kidd, is still in Chicago, no one yet knows when the character (and the actor) may return to the show.
