Theorizing is among the most popular pastimes in the House of the Dragon fandom.

The most recent bout of theorizing and speculation was caused by casting of actors to play new characters, who are going to take the stage in the show's Season 2. One of the freshly cast actors is Abubakar Salim, who will portray Alyn of Hull. In the book, the character and his brother, Addam, are introduced during the war, claiming to be the bastard children of Laenor Velaryon.

They are described as having obviously Valyrian looks, which gives credence to their claim. But the problem is that Laenor is gay, and the show explicitly establishes he cannot sire children no matter what.

Naturally, the casting news prompted a new round of fan theories about the character — and here are just three of them.

One theory is that Alyn and Addam are children of Corlys Velaryon. This is actually an idea from the book, but it is presented by Mushroom — by far the least reliable of the three historical sources, who absolutely loves salacious slander. In the show's context, however, he could be right this time.

At the very least, we know that Corlys was in the right place at the right time to potentially meet the boys' mother. And the fact that Salim is 30, too old to play Laenor's son, supports the idea.

Another theory is supported not by casting, but by the absence of it — no actor has been cast to play Addam of Hull, so it's quite likely that the brothers are going to be merged into a single character, as Game of Thrones did to a number of minor characters from the book series, most notably Gendry and Edric Storm. However, as casting for Season 2 is clearly not complete yet, this might mean nothing.

The last major theory is related to the plot hole from Season 1. You see, Laenor had a dragon, Seasmoke, and the bond between a dragon and a rider is supposed to be life-long. While, in the book, Laenor was killed stone-dead, the character is still alive in the show. But Seasmoke was claimed by Addam of Hull in the novel, possibly the same character as Alyn in the adaptation.

Therefore, it's likely that Laenor may return, if only to try using his dragon in the civil war and get dispatched by his own son (or half-brother).

Reportedly, Season 2 of House of the Dragon is most likely to premiere in the summer of 2024.
