15 Years Later, Here's Taylor Lautner's Unfiltered Thoughts on Twilight
In spite of the fact that Bella wound up with the other guy, Taylor Lautner is still #TeamJacobForLife.
Lautner recently shared his thoughts on superstardom, working on Twilight, and what he thinks Jacob would be up to in a sequel… which, by the way, he wouldn't be opposed to working on.
When we last saw Jacob Black, he had found his one true love in a newborn baby (if you know, you know – if you don't know, don't ask). Bella and Edward were living happily ever after, and centuries of strife between the vampires and werewolves of Forks had come to a truce.
The series has gotten a lot of renewed interest lately, partly because a new generation of fans has discovered the movies and can appreciate their combination of romance and camp. When asked, Lautner told E!News that while he thinks Renesmee and Jacob are currently living as soul mates somewhere, he can imagine there being more to their story – and he could potentially see himself reprising the role of Jacob Black some day. Lautner said:
'He's a good character that is easy to love, so I would never say no to that. Because it's Jacob Black. He's a lovable guy…he's a pretty loyal dude.'
His lovability is why legions of fans were Team Jacob, even knowing that Bella would inevitably choose Edward. To be fair, the fan worship had a little bit to do with Jacob's sweet nature… but probably a bit more to do with his abs.
Lautner is now candid about the challenge of remaining so buff for the Twilight series. He was only 17 when the movies started filming, but he had to deal with an intense diet and exercise regimen. He was even under strict instructions to avoid cardio, in order to keep his muscles as big as possible. Lautner told E!:
'The amount of the working out and discipline and food that went into it, not fond memories.'
Keeping in outrageous physical shape wasn't the only challenge Lautner faced. He has also spoken about the challenge of trying to live a normal life when screaming fans would accost him everywhere he went. Almost as challenging was the opposite, when Twilight was over and suddenly people seemed to care a lot less about him or his acting career. He said,
'(You) start to be like, 'oh, do people not care about me anymore?' When it goes away a little bit, you notice it, and that's the dangerous part because that can mess with your mind.'
If Twilight ever sees a sequel, Lautner might have to face up to the screaming fans again, though it will probably be easier to deal with as a mature, married adult than it was as a teenager.
