These are the legends of American TV.

With hundreds of new shows coming out every year, it's sometimes challenging to discern what truly merits your attention. Fortunately, there are classics that never lose their appeal.

Here are America's thirteen longest-running shows.

  1. Sesame Street (November 1969, 53 seasons)

The iconic children's show is available for streaming on Max. Season 54 of Sesame Street is slated for release on the platform on November 9.

  1. Saturday Night Live (October 1975, 49 seasons)

The cult sketch comedy show has hosted numerous guest stars over the years and has undergone many cast changes. In 2023, Chloe Troast joined SNL. It airs on NBC at 11:29 pm ET on Saturdays and is available for streaming on Peacock.

  1. The Simpsons (December 1989, 35 seasons)

This iconic animated sitcom is currently in its thirty-fifth season on Fox. It is also available on Disney+, Hulu, and Fox Now.

  1. Law & Order (September 1990, 22 seasons)

After a twelve-year hiatus, the beloved procedural returned in 2022 and has since spanned two more seasons. It was renewed for a twenty-third season, which was delayed due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. You can stream it on Peacock and Hulu.

  1. South Park (August 1997, 26 seasons)

This whimsically animated series for adults concluded its most recent season in the spring. There have been no announcements about a twenty-seventh season yet. It's available on Max.

  1. Family Guy (January 1999, 22 seasons)

Another piece of adult animation on this list is currently airing its latest twenty-second season on Fox. It is also available on Amazon Prime.

  1. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (September 1999, 24 seasons)

Season 25 of the beloved spin-off of the cult procedural was delayed until 2024 due to the writers' and actor's strikes. You can stream the existing installments on Hulu and Peacock.

  1. NCIS (September 2003, 20 seasons)

Season 21 of the beloved CBS police drama was also affected by the strikes and delayed until the following year. It's available for streaming on Paramount+ and Netflix.

  1. American Dad! (February 2005, 20 seasons)

Another adult animated sitcom by Seth MacFarlane, currently airing season 23 since March, was also temporarily put on hold due to the strikes. It's available on Hulu.

  1. Grey's Anatomy (March 2005, 19 seasons)

Season 19 of the cult ABC medical drama ended shortly after the strikes began, so the twentieth installment is currently delayed. More importantly, it won't feature the show's star, Ellen Pompeo, as the titular character. You can stream it on Netflix and Hulu.

  1. Criminal Minds (September 2005, 16 seasons)

Starting with season 16, the crime drama is available exclusively on Paramount+. As for future installments, the streaming service renewed it for a seventeenth season in January.

  1. Blue Bloods (September 2010, 13 seasons)

In March, CBS announced it was producing season 14 of the beloved police procedural but had to put it on hold due to the strikes. It's available on Paramount+ and Hulu.

  1. Bob's Burgers (January 2011, 14 seasons)

This adult animated sitcom returned to Fox with season 14 earlier this month. You can also watch it on Hulu and Fox Now.
