10 Gilmore Girls Actors You Didn't Know Also Starred in Grey's Anatomy
The pipeline from Gilmore Girls to Grey's Anatomy is real.
After nearly 20 years on the air, it's kind of impressive when a TV actor or actress doesn't have a cameo on Grey's Anatomy, and the cast of Gilmore Girls seems to have given the ABC medical procedural more actor fuel than any other project. With more than 200 names credited on both shows, it almost seems like they exist in the same universe.
Here are 10 examples that might surprise you.
Liza Weil (Paris Geller)
The actress who portrayed everyone's favorite overachiever and Rory's friend Paris appeared in Season 5 of the medical drama as Alison Clark, a cancer patient who became friends with Izzie Stevens after going through chemotherapy together. Unfortunately, Liza Weil's character didn't survive one of her surgeries.
Emily Bergl (Francie Jarvis)
The star who played Francie, the 2002 senior class president, leader of the secret society The Puffs, and Paris Geller's main school rival, can be spotted with a blonde haircut in Season 6 of Grey's Anatomy. Emily Bergl played a friend of car accident victim Amber Courier, who had her fingers amputated. Fans may recall the argument the two had about the importance of staying alive above all else.
Gregg Henry (Mitchum Huntzberger)
Gregg Henry, the actor who played Logan and Honor Huntzberger's wealthy father and a big name in the newspaper industry, portrayed Dr. L. Gracie on Grey's Anatomy. His character was an attending general surgeon at Seattle Grace Hospital in the early 80s, when the series went back in time in Season 6 to show a young Ellis Grey and Richard Webber working together to treat an AIDS patient.
Kathleen Wilhoite (Liz Danes)
Kathleen Wilhoite played the troubled, pot-smoking younger sister of Luke Danes and had a major character development in Gilmore Girls. In Season 6 of Grey's Anatomy, the actress had a cameo as Leslie Goldman, the daughter of a patient with severe abdominal pain — you may remember her yelling at the doctors for being more interested in fighting over who's going to treat her father than actually taking care of him.
Emily Kuroda (Mrs. Kim)
The star who portrayed the strict and demanding mother of Lane, Rory's best friend from Stars Hollow and owner of Kim's Antiques, was seen in Season 5 of the medical show as Kendall Sully, Cristina Yang's hernia patient. She taught Cristina to be attentive to all of her patients, even if their surgeries were relatively simple.
Scott Cohen (Max Medina)
The actor who played everyone's favorite English teacher at Chilton and Lorelai's ex-fiancé had a chance to don a doctor's white coat when he portrayed Thomas Evans in an episode of Grey's Anatomy Season 6. Scott Cohen's character was an excellent heart surgeon who was in the running for Teddy Altman's job but decided to turn down the offer after he witnessed all the drama that the hospital's doctors were involved in. Good for him!
Vanessa Marano (April Nardini)
The actress who portrayed Luke Danes' surprise daughter had a brief but memorable role as a patient in the medical drama's Season 8, playing Holly Wheeler, a girl who was kidnapped at age six and held captive for 12 years before she escaped. At the hospital, doctors discovered many unhealed or improperly healed wounds and fractures in her body, including the consequences of a pregnancy gone wrong.
By the end of the episode, Holly was cleared to go home with her parents, who were determined to help the girl recover both physically and psychologically.
Rose Abdoo (Gypsy)
The Gilmore Girls actress who portrayed Gypsy, the unfiltered, sarcastic and tough auto mechanic, got her own marriage counseling practice in Grey's Anatomy Season 11 when she played Dr. Kim Dawson, Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins' counselor. Rose Abdoo's character made the doctors completely rethink their marriage.
Scout Taylor-Compton (Clara Forester)
The actress who played Dean Forester's annoying little sister has grown up and had a small role as a patient in Grey's Anatomy Season 8. Scout Taylor-Compton's character was Angie, a barista who was working in a coffee shop when an espresso machine exploded in her face, causing severe burns. She was treated by Mark Sloan and Jackson Avery.
Edward Herrmann (Richard Gilmore)
Edward Herrmann played the stern, hard-working and old-fashioned Gilmore patriarch, Lorelai's father and Rory's grandfather. The actor surprised many fans by appearing in Season 4 of Grey's Anatomy as the world's oldest surgical intern, Norman Shales. His three-episode arc included a feud with Alex Karev, telling a treatable patient that they were dying, having a stroke in surgery, and eventually being transferred to a psychiatry residency.
