Zootopia 2 stampedes the global box office, riding a worldwide hot streak as audiences crowd in for the sequel.

Zootopia 2 just keeps gobbling up box office milestones. It already leaped over Superman, and now it has edged past two more heavy hitters. Let’s run the numbers and where this puts Disney’s year.

The money: where it stands and who it just passed

Deadline pegs Zootopia 2 at a $915.8 million worldwide total. That pushes it ahead of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle at $768.9 million and Jurassic World Rebirth at $868.9 million. The next target is The Minecraft Movie, sitting at $957.9 million, and Deadline expects Zootopia 2 to cross the billion-dollar line this week.

None of that is shocking when you remember the first Zootopia cleared $1 billion and took home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. Also, this sequel blasted out of the gate with a record-setting $556 million opening weekend. That is... a lot of tickets for talking animals.

  • Per Deadline’s 2025 leaderboard: China’s Ne Zha 2 is way out front with $1.9 billion; among Hollywood releases, Lilo & Stitch is the only title currently ahead of Zootopia 2.

Quick note because the math looks funky: Deadline also lists The Minecraft Movie at $957.9 million, which would put it above Zootopia 2 at the moment. Their framing of the 2025 chart still labels Lilo & Stitch as the only Hollywood film ahead of it. Either way, Zootopia 2 is chasing Minecraft and is expected to blow past $1 billion imminently.

So what is this one about?

The sequel picks up shortly after the first movie. Nick Wilde (fox) and Judy Hopps (bunny) are now officially partners on the ZPD. Their new case drags them into a reptile-flavored conspiracy led by Ke Huy Quan’s slippery antagonist, Gary De'Snake. Yes, reptiles finally crash the party.

Disney’s 2025 scoreboard

Thanks to Zootopia 2’s latest weekend, Disney has crossed $5 billion at the worldwide box office this year, making it the first (and so far only) studio to hit that mark in 2025. The studio already has one billion-dollar hit in Lilo & Stitch, so it’s been a strong run overall, even with Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World and The Fantastic Four: First Steps underperforming.

Will there be a Zootopia 3?

Nothing is officially greenlit, but the movie plants clues: a tucked-away Easter egg and the post-credits scene both tease a third film that would focus on birds — a species the franchise hasn’t introduced yet. Considering the cash and the teases, a Part 3 feels less like an if and more like a when.

Zootopia 2 is in theaters now.
