Zootopia 2 stampedes into the box office, already among the year’s biggest draws.

Zootopia 2 is not easing into its run. It just blew past some very big capes and gadgets in its first week.

Seven days in, the sequel has already edged out Superman worldwide. As of Deadline's December 3 update, Zootopia 2 sits at a global $616.7 million. Box Office Mojo puts the precise tally at $616,776,630. That slips past Superman's $616.68 million and also tops Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning at $598.76 million.

The pace here is wild. The movie opened with what can only be called a record-breaker: a $556 million global debut. And this run is just getting started. The first Zootopia cleared $1 billion worldwide, and it sure looks like Disney has another billion-dollar animal parade on its hands.

Where it's hitting hardest

  • China: $297.2M
  • France: $16.3M
  • Korea: $15.6M
  • Mexico: $12.3M
  • Germany: $9.4M

Japan gets it this Friday, December 5, and there is a fun twist for gamers: yes, that Hideo Kojima has a voice cameo in the Japanese release.

Story-wise, the sequel picks up soon after the first film. Fox hustler-turned-good-guy Nick Wilde and relentless bunny cop Judy Hopps are now full-on partners at the ZPD. Their new case digs into a fresh conspiracy and brings a cute new player into the universe: Ke Huy Quan as Gary De'Snake. Also new for the franchise: reptiles finally slither into the lineup.
