Zootopia 2 On Track to Outgross Fantastic Four’s Entire Run in Just 5 Days
Zootopia 2 is stampeding toward a record launch, with projections pegging a $520 million-plus five-day opening that could set a new benchmark for Disney’s 3D animated sequels, according to Discussing Films.
Disney sequels usually print money, but this one might need a bigger printer. Zootopia 2 is barreling toward a monster debut, with a new industry projection pegging its five-day global opening above the half-billion mark. Yes, half a billion. For opening.
"Estimated to pass $520M+ in the film's global opening weekend."
- DiscussingFilm, Nov 28, 2025
That estimate comes from DiscussingFilm and would put the Zootopia sequel in some pretty wild territory. Thanksgiving releases often get measured on a five-day frame, and if this number sticks, it would not only top every animated opening ever, it could also sneak into the top five openings for any movie, period. And for what it's worth, some box office trackers were already floating a $500M global opening before the movie even hit screens, so this isn't coming out of nowhere.
What those projections actually mean
- Global five-day opening projection: $520M+ (DiscussingFilm)
- Would be the biggest global opening for an animated film ever
- Could land among the top five biggest openings for any movie
- Perspective check: Disney's The Fantastic Four: First Steps made $521M total in its full theatrical run (via Box Office Mojo) — roughly what Zootopia 2 might do in one opening stretch
Even if the film lands a little short of that $520M+ target, it's still on track for the year's biggest opening. The other advantage here: people seem to actually like it. Unlike a few recent Disney follow-ups — the piece specifically namechecks Frozen 2, Moana 2, and Ralph Breaks the Internet — this sequel is reportedly playing strong with audiences and critics, which tends to give legs to those second and third weekends. If these early reads hold, a $1B+ global finish looks, at minimum, extremely likely. To be clear: that's a projection, not money in the bank yet.
Disney's rough 2025 might be getting a happy ending
Zooming out, the studio could use a win. 2025 has been lumpy: Snow White couldn't make a dent, The Fantastic Four: First Steps barely broke even, other Marvel titles underperformed, and Pixar's Elio didn't break through. If Zootopia 2 delivers one of the biggest openings ever and holds, and with Avatar: Fire & Ash arriving next month, Disney suddenly has a much sunnier finish to a bumpy year.
Zootopia 2 is in theaters now. And if you want to sanity-check that 'half a billion' comparison, The Fantastic Four: First Steps is streaming on Disney+ in the U.S.
