Zack Snyder is cooking up a hot lesbian action movie with Tig Notaro — and the comedian just dropped the first details on Kara Swisher’s podcast after their Army of the Dead team-up.

Zack Snyder and Tig Notaro might be cooking up an action movie born from a very unexpected place: the internet deciding Notaro was sexy in Army of the Dead. Yes, the pitch involved the words "Hot Lesbian Action." And yes, Snyder reportedly said yes immediately.

How we got here

Notaro was on the podcast On With Kara Swisher talking about her Army of the Dead experience. If you remember, she joined the film after Chris D'Elia was accused of sexual misconduct. Snyder scrubbed D'Elia out and shot Notaro solo on green screens, then composited her into scenes. It was a tiny role with a very unusual production process, but Notaro says it led to something she did not expect: people were suddenly thirsting over her character.

"I go viral for being sexy in this film."

She says her phone lit up with messages from straight men, gay men, gay women, and straight women, all saying the same thing: she looked hot. So she called Snyder with a fully chaotic, very Hollywood idea.

The pitch that sold Snyder

According to Notaro, she told Snyder: what if they just went all the way with it and made an action movie where everyone is a hot lesbian. Snyder loved it. On the spot, he was in. Notaro even had a poster idea ready: the film title, and then the words "Hot Lesbian Action" slapped on the art. She says that was the Zoom pitch that sealed it.

So, what is this movie?

Notaro says the project is called "Deviants." It is set "back in some old-timey days" and revolves around closeted characters navigating that world. That is the vibe for now, because the script is still being put together.

  • Title: "Deviants"
  • Origin: Notaro pitched it after going viral for her Army of the Dead role
  • Team: Tig Notaro and Zack Snyder developing together
  • Setting: A period piece about closeted "deviants"
  • Status: In development; script in progress
  • Release/Distribution: None yet
  • Where this came up: Notaro on the podcast On With Kara Swisher; the story first surfaced via SuperHeroHype

To be clear: there is no release date, no distributor, and no guarantee it lands at Netflix just because Army of the Dead did. This is early-days development. But a Snyder-Notaro period action movie with that title and that concept? That is a swing. And honestly, if you suddenly become a surprise sex symbol in a zombie heist movie you shot alone on a green screen, why not go for it.
