Zach Braff Shuts Down AI Girlfriend Rumors
The internet tried to ship Zach Braff with an AI chatbot — now the Scrubs star is setting the record straight, denying any romance.
Well, here we are: the internet spent the week whispering that Zach Braff is dating an AI chatbot. Sure. Why not.
Where this even came from
The spark seems to be a December episode of the comedy podcast 'I Need You Guys,' where hosts Max Silvestri, Jenny Slate, Gabe Liedman, and guest Kumail Nanjiani traded gossip about an unnamed Hollywood actor reportedly in a relationship with an AI companion.
'There is a well-known actor who is currently in a romantic relationship with his AI chatbot,' Silvestri said. 'And [he] brings the chatbot with him places and talks to the chatbot. I think on the phone or computer or whatever.'
They described the mystery man as very famous — basically TV A-list — with film work on the resume. Nanjiani pressed on whether the actor realizes how odd that sounds, and Silvestri said the person is somewhat self-aware, with a kind of 'this is the future, deal with it' vibe. They never said the name on-mic, but Silvestri texted it to the people in the room.
'We can’t put this on our podcast. It’s not nice,' Slate said.
How it landed on Zach Braff
The internet did its thing and decided, with zero proof, that the unnamed actor was Braff. From there, the rumor went wide.
Braff responds
Braff shot it down on his Instagram Stories and offered a very specific reason why this might be floating around.
'I’m not dating a chatbot. I can’t believe I have to type these words. It is a storyline in an upcoming ep of Scrubs. Maybe it came from that? Not sure. But not me. Love, The guy not dating his chatbot. Please update all gossip sites.'
So, according to Braff, the AI-girlfriend bit is fiction — on TV — not his personal life. For what it’s worth, he can currently be seen in the new Scrubs revival.
The quick version
- December: a comedy podcast shares secondhand gossip about a very famous actor allegedly dating his AI chatbot; no name is said on-air, though the hosts text it privately.
- Online speculation points at Zach Braff without evidence.
- Braff publicly denies it and says people likely confused a Scrubs storyline with real life.
Bottom line: interesting rumor, stronger denial, and a perfectly modern mix-up between TV plots and reality. Have a weekend.
