You’re Missing These Bamboo Strikes in Ghost of Yotei — Here’s Every Location

Bamboo Strikes are back in Ghost of Yotei—15 scattered across its breathtaking open world. Carve through stacked poles in a single slash to raise Atsu’s Maximum Spirit, powering stronger heals and devastating abilities.
Miss cutting down bamboo like a maniac? Good news: Bamboo Strikes are back in Ghost of Yotei, and there are 15 of them tucked across the map. Just like Tsushima, you carve through a stack of poles in one clean swing. Do it right and Atsu gets a bump to her Maximum Spirit, which means more healing and more of those big abilities. If you want to stay alive long enough to keep hunting the Yotei Six, Spirit matters. A few of these Strikes are straightforward. A few are... not. Sake, bears, lightning. You will see things.
How Bamboo Strikes work (and why you should care)
Each Strike you complete raises Atsu's Maximum Spirit. More Spirit equals more healing and more special moves on tap. Two Strikes are tied to the main story and auto-complete as you go. The rest live in the open world and sometimes have little hoops to jump through: talk to an NPC, pay a bribe, finish a Mythic Tale, throw weapons to bait lightning. Yes, really.
All 15 Bamboo Strike locations
- The Way of Dual Katana (story) — Auto-completes during the Main Tale 'The Way of Dual Katana'. That quest unlocks once you reach Ezo. Head to the Mountain Trail west of Yotei Grasslands, climb up the rocks, meet the Dual Katana Master, and follow him to the Strike.
- The Oni (story) — Auto-completes during the Main Tale 'The Oni' in Ishikari Plain. When you arrive at the Matsumae Encampment with Jubei, chat up the Matsumae Samurai off to the side. He challenges you, you slice the bamboo, and you walk away with his very nice hat.
- Father's Bamboo Strike (Yotei Grasslands) — At Atsu's Home in Yotei Grasslands. Set a marker on 'Home', then head northwest toward the cliff edge. There is a broken stand; interact to fix it and start chopping.
- Nupur River (Yotei Grasslands) — Go to Nupur River, west of the Maw of the Serpent. Look just above the Crow's Nest Watchtower marker, right beside the river. Talk to the NPC there to kick off the mini-game.
- Yotei River (Yotei Grasslands) — Slightly above the Yotei River text on your map, basically at the 'Y'. It is near white trees at a cliff edge, with a small audience ready to cheer you on.
- Urara (Ishikari Plain) — Inside Urara Forest, to the right of the Oni's Breath Inn. The forest sits east of Ishikari Fork. Do the Strike and you not only boost Spirit, you also get the Shattered Demon Mask.
- Rumoi (Ishikari Plain) — At Rumoi River, north side of the region. On the map text, look between the 'O' and 'I' and climb the hill there. The NPC gatekeeping the Strike will either spar you or let you pay 200 Coins to skip the fight. Either way, you get access after.
- Huranui's Rest Inn (Tokachi Range) — Between Ohara Plains and Moiwa Grotto at Huranui's Rest Inn. The gimmick: drink two jars of Sake first, then do the Strike while buzzed. There are jars right next to the stand, or bring your own from a merchant.
- Misty Valley (Tokachi Range) — South Tokachi Range at the Abandoned Tominaga Estate, past the Mysterious Gate. You need to start or finish the Mythic Tale 'The Spider Lily General' before this Strike becomes available. Return afterward to slice.
- Niikappu's Fork (Tokachi Range) — Northeast of Huranui's Rest Inn, on a hill south of the Twin Ponds of Hidaka. Two giant bears block the site; take them down first, then you can use the stand and recoup that lost health with the extra Spirit.
- Sakuru (Teshio Ridge) — North of Sakuru Woods, up in the northern stretches of Teshio Ridge. The stand sits on a snowy mountain with a few altars nearby.
- Hakodake (Teshio Ridge) — Directly east of the Hakodake Mountains, up the northern side of the slope. Finish the Strike and a fortune teller appears. Pay 200 Coins to hear Atsu's fortune and unlock a new side quest. Free Spirit upgrade, plus a lead to chase.
- Sarobetsu (Teshio Ridge) — Northeast of Sarobetsu Lake in the region's northwest corner. North of a local inn, out in the middle of an icy lake with a great view. Slice, warm up, move on.
- Atago (Oshima Coast) — Just above the Atago Rice Fields. The inside baseball here: the area is actively getting zapped by lightning. Before you touch the stand, pick up and throw any swords and spears lying around to draw the strikes away (hold R2 and Square). Once the lightning is fixated elsewhere, step in and complete the Strike.
- Matsumae (Oshima Coast) — Inside Castle Matsumae's village area, to the right of the blossom tree courtyard. Castle Matsumae sits at the south end of Oshima Coast, past the Atago Rice Fields. This one is a one-handed Strike, and completing it maxes out your Spirit for the run. Also, once you have all 15, you pop the 'Body, Mind, and Spirit' Silver Trophy on the way to Platinum.
A couple extra notes
There are no Bamboo Strikes in the Nayoro Wilds region, so don't waste time combing that area. Finishing all 15 raises your Spirit to the cap and unlocks the 'Body, Mind, and Spirit' Silver Trophy, which is required for the Platinum.
