Life is full of hardship. It is difficult to say what is the worst thing to happen to somebody. But being cheated on isn’t the end of the world.

Set up as a prequel to The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon was meant to give us a look into the titular character’s childhood and answer some questions about it.

As we learn from TBBT, when Sheldon was a child, he once walked in on his father having sex with a woman other than his wife. Oddly enough, Young Sheldon’s fans have feared most to witness the moment. But actually it’s not the worst thing that might happen or has already happened.

George Sr. is portrayed as an average 1980s Texan dad: emotionally inept but caring, flawed but well-intentioned. He is very human and real, and that, in fact, makes him arguably the most likable character on the show. No wonder people are so unwilling to see him do something as awful as infidelity.

But while cheating is in no way a nice thing to do, it isn’t as horrendous as many people make it sound. And it certainly doesn’t make George any less human and relatable. At least, that’s what some Redditors say.

‘I myself dislike cheating as conflict, but this could also be another facet to his character, a reflection of his flaws,’ one Redditor writes.

Indeed, it is only the progression of the plot and the development of the characters’ lives. Sheldon’s parents, George and Mary, have been pretty unhappy in their marriage recently. Besides, their marriage was more of a necessity than it was desired as Mary got pregnant with their first son Georgie. They never talked about their problems, feelings, or needs.

A more or less accurate portrayal of the "good old days," Young Sheldon shows what it is like when spouses are first parents and only then a couple and lovers. Sheldon's parents would only suffer and become less happy and more bitter if their silent cohabitation continued.

Their marriage is set to fall apart.

As for George, he has felt underappreciated for years. Considering that he will die in the next few years, who knows what the misery of tolerating his dysfunctional marriage could do to him?
