Young Sheldon Fans Agree This Is the Most Upsetting Development on the Show
It was the best arc on the entire show until it got ruined.
Summary
- Many viewers were invested in Meemaw's relationship with Dr. Sturgis.
- The two characters really brought out the best in each other.
- Connie's relationships after John weren't as satisfying to follow.
Sheldon's Meemaw is arguably one of the most beloved characters on the show. Connie is funny, feisty and sharp-tongued. Most importantly, she seems unfazed by the problems and misfortunes she encounters along the way.
Sure, Meemaw can be cranky and brusque, but those qualities only add nuance to her personality. And in the end, she has been one of Young Sheldon's ultimate fan favorites throughout the show's seven-season run. As a result, many viewers are deeply invested in her character arc and care about her relationships and happiness. Yet, unfortunately, her arc features the most upsetting development on the show.
A Short-Lived Romance
Introduced in Season 1 by Sheldon, who was taking Dr. Sturgis' class at East Texas Tech, Connie and John quickly developed a liking for each other. It was obvious that Meemaw fell for Dr. Sturgis, despite his quirks. And eventually the two began dating.
Although they were poles apart in personality, Connie and John seemed to make a perfect couple as they complemented each other. She was all sweetness and light in his presence. He, in turn, was more decisive and 'normal' with her. She appreciated his intelligence and his quirky sense of humor. And he was smitten with her ability to be unapologetically herself and do what she liked.
Dr. Sturgis and Meemaw's romance delighted many viewers as it blossomed throughout the second season. But it also proved heartbreaking when the two characters parted ways at the beginning of Season 3, following John's mental breakdown when he decided he shouldn't put the weight of his mental problems on Connie.
Nothing Compares to You
Since their breakup, Connie has had a brief relationship with Ira and an on-again, off-again relationship with Coach Dale, with whom she is currently staying since her house was destroyed by a tornado. But despite the fact that Meemaw and Dale have a lot in common, people still consider her romance with Dr. Sturgis to be the best.
'They were both sweet with each other, and learning about each other. I wish that hadn't ended,' one Reddit user wrote about Connie and John's love arc.
Interestingly, many viewers feel that it's the difference between the two characters that brought out the best in them and made their relationship so endearing to watch.
'The problem with Dale and Connie is that they are both cantankerous old bastards. You only need one of those in a relationship,' another Redditor quipped.
Perhaps it would be naive to hope for a reunion of Meemaw and Dr. Sturgis in Season 7, but at least we can hope that the two could have an adorable interaction. Episode 7 will be released on April 11.
