It's been four years since the last season of HBO's hit show Game of Thrones came out, but fans' interest in the cult TV series never seems to wane much.

Based on the book series by George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones outgrew the novels by a mile, breaking a number of records and becoming the most watched show of its time.

The characters inhabiting the beautiful and dangerous world of Westeros are all very different and unique, thanks to George R. R. Martin's ingenious writing. Some of them have supernatural powers, but others are more human-like and excel only in their mental abilities. Have you ever wondered who is the smartest of them all?

Fans over on Reddit carried out a pole and came to a rather unsurprising conclusion — Tyrion Lannister is deemed the smartest character on Game of Thrones.

In case you need to brush up your memory, he is the youngest of Tywin Lannister's children, affected by dwarfism. Despite his imperfect physique, Tyrion is very smart and charismatic. Played in the show by Peter Dinklage, Tyrion was the right-hand man of several monarchs and proved to be a savvy strategist and statesman.

Reportedly, Tyrion is Martin's favorite character among thousands of others in his fantasy series' world, so it's understandable why the author has given the dwarf of Casterly Rock such a mighty wit.

In Games of Thrones, we saw Tyrion make a lot of wide decisions, but he was never as manipulative as some of the other masterminds in Westeros, such as Lord Varys, Littlefinger, or Petyr Baelish. In line with that, Tyrion did not crave power as much as other characters — even though he was already quite powerful, he never actively pursued more power, which was also a wise decision in a world brimming with violence.

What's more, Tyrion eventually found a way to get what he wanted — to implement change — and he didn't get murdered along the way unlike many other mentally agile characters. All of these points make him the true winner of the game of thrones and the smartest man in the story.
