Reddit has spoken…

Redditors have been busy discussing what might happen in the series finale of Yellowstone.

So, let’s take a look at what they’re predicting and which of the theories are likely to come true:

  1. The Native Americans get their land back

In the prequel series 1883, Spotted Eagle said that, after seven generations of Duttons, his people will take back their land. He didn’t go into details of how or why, but this would be an interesting crossover between series.

It would require some form of explanation as to why he made the prediction but would deliver a nice symmetry.

  1. Jamie is revealed as part Native American

This prediction could be linked to the previous one. The suggestion is that John Dutton’s big secret is that his father had a bastard son with a Native American woman.

If true, it would explain why the less-than-benevolent John Dutton adopted Jamie. It would also provide a neat segue into the reason that the ranch is (even jointly) returned to the Native Americans.

  1. The Duttons go to war with each other

Ok, so they’re not exactly the happiest of families in the first place. But as pressure mounts on John – and with so much secrecy and mistrust going around, it would only take one slip-up or malicious move for everything to descend into chaos.

If John is killed, who takes over and what does that mean for the future of the ranch and the family? And would a collapse of the status quo result in Rip finding out what Jamie did to Beth? If so, there’s no knowing what he’ll do.

One thing that may well happen as a result of the family tearing each other apart is that (as previously suggested) the land is returned to its original owners.

  1. John Dutton dies

We’re not talking about being killed as part of a feud here. We’re thinking about him dying in a scene reminiscent of the opening scene of the entire show when he was forced to kill that horse. Alternatively, he dies of natural causes – or in suspicious circumstances – opening up the question of inheritance.

  1. Train derails dumping toxic sludge into the Yellowstone River

A bit leftfield but it would be something of a poetic ending. After all that has gone before, for a freak event to leave the land basically worthless would be a lesson to the family, those that live around them and all of us viewers.

And, of course, none of them would care when the Native Americans reclaim it.
