Fans will have to wait for the return of their beloved show for quite a while.

Summary

  • Yellowstone is the most popular Western show on television.
  • Release window of the show's last installment has been announced.
  • Like Yellowstone's final part, its spin-offs will premiere later than expected.

Western appears to be a pretty niche genre. However, there has been a resurgence of interest in it. And it seems that there's just one reason why – Yellowstone.

Premiering on the Paramount Network in 2018, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone quickly garnered a large following, becoming a mainstream Western show popular with audiences worldwide. Centered on the Dutton family, the owners of the largest cattle ranch in Montana, the series explores the drama and numerous tragedies that accompany their business as almost every neighbor of the Duttons is their blood-sworn foe.

Since its release, Yellowstone has spanned some four and a half seasons, with the second part of season 5 being on its way. Given that the season in question is the show's final one, it isn't surprising that people are looking forward to the premiere of its second part. Now, the release window has been officially announced.

Later Than We Expected

While originally part 2 of Yellowstone's fifth season was slated for November 2023, the show's last installment has been pushed to the next year due to the writers' and actors' strike. Since the WGA manifestation has been over for quite a while, the work on the script may have been going on for some time, but the stumbling stone remains. Due to the still-ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, Yellowstone's final part cannot be filmed.

Moreover, as the strike shows no signs of stopping, it is yet uncertain when the principal production of the second part of season 5 will begin. In this light, postponing the release of Yellowstone's finale until November 2024 seems to be a sensible decision. For now, though, we'll have to wait another year to see the last bits of the fan-favorite show.

Yellowstone's New Installments

Following the exit of Yellowstone star Kevin Costner, who portrays the patriarch of the Dutton family, the show is set to conclude. At the same time, the story will live on with a new sequel series already greenlit.

Titled 2024, the new Yellowstone spin-off will revolve around Matthew McConaughey's character, who is still an enigma to viewers. Just like the original series, the sequel has been delayed until next year and will likely be released shortly after the finale of the main series.

1944, which was announced earlier this year, has suffered the same fate. It has also been pushed to 2024, but the exact release date hasn't been announced yet.
