Writer and creator reassures Heartstopper fans after panic over TV show spoilers.

Netflix's biggest book-to-screen success, Heartstopper, is well underway filming for what is expected to be a hit season 3. There's lots going on behind the scenes of Netflix's favourite romcom, and naturally, the show's die-hard fans have got their detective hats on, eagerly looking for any hint of what the new season might bring.

The cast of the hit queer coming-of-age drama have been spotted filming in various parts of the UK, and the fans turned sleuths have taken to social media to post their clips of the filming process or behind-the-scenes photos. While this is welcomed in many of the online fandom, other fans have been crying out for people to stop spoiling the show by sharing these clips and discussing the potential storyline scenes being filmed in them.

Is it really spoiling the show if the novels have already been published?

While it's hard to stop any spoilers being leaked when fans catch moments of filming happening in public, it's even harder when the source material behind the show - Alice Oseman's hit graphic novel series of the same name - is already on volume 4, ahead of the TV show's release. However, to quell the panic in the fandom, and to reassure any fans worried about spoilers, Oseman themselves took to social media to let fans know not to take too much notice of what scenes seemed to be being filmed.

'Gently whispers that TV shows are hardly ever filmed in chronological order' - Alice Oseman wrote on Tumblr.

They also shared their experience filming the season 2: 'Fun bit of trivia about S2 is that our first day of filming was Nick and Charlie's park date and there were a bunch of fans watching and filming/taking photos throughout the whole thing and i was absolutely losing my mind thinking that scene was going to get spoiled on the very first day of the shoot.'

'Leaks are inevitable at this point,' they added in a separate post in response to a fan,'it's not worth anyone stressing about!! I've accepted that they are inevitable and I'm not anywhere near as stressed about them as I was last year. I'd always recommend adding a spoiler warning if you are posting them online, because not everyone wants to see them, but I can't control what people do online.'

And indeed, why stress over someone sharing the behind-the-scenes spoilers when you can just enjoy the tidbits of content coming out as you eagerly await the next instalment of both the graphic novel and the TV show?
