James Gunn has weighed in on DCU Wonder Woman casting: with Ana Nogueira scripting and the film moving ahead at DC Studios and Warner Bros., the new Diana Prince still hasn’t been named.

Wonder Woman is officially on DC Studios' to-do list, and yes, James Gunn knows the internet is obsessing over her height. Let me cut through the noise and tell you where things actually stand.

The height thing (because of course we're doing this)

Back in 2024, Gunn was asked how he felt about casting a Wonder Woman who towers over Batman and Superman. He basically shrugged off the idea of finding a 6'5" actress, joking that it would be tough to locate someone that tall who also fits the part. Naturally, that turned into a whole debate about whether Wonder Woman can be taller than the guys.

Important context: David Corenswet, the DCU's new Superman, is 6'4". Batman hasn't been cast yet. And now, after getting asked again on Threads whether he'd consider a Diana under 5'9", Gunn clarified his stance. The height discourse? Definitely not the hill he's dying on.

"I don't think extreme height is the most important factor in casting WW. That's all I said earlier as well. I never said I didn't feel good about her being taller than Superman - I just said that would never be what I considered most important in her casting."

Translation: they're going to cast the right actor, not the tallest one.

So where is the movie right now?

  • A Wonder Woman film is in active development at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
  • Ana Nogueira is writing the script.
  • No director is attached yet.
  • No one has been cast as Diana Prince yet.
  • No release date has been set, and plot details are still locked down.
  • It is unclear whether Diana will first appear in her solo film or pop up in another DCU project before that.
  • Separately, the Themyscira-set series 'Paradise Lost' is still in development, but there have been no major updates since it was first announced in January 2023.

Bottom line: Wonder Woman is coming, the script is in the works, and the height discourse is just that — discourse. When the casting actually happens, expect it to be about presence, charisma, and whether she feels like Diana, not inches on a stat sheet.
