Hold your wands—David Henrie just reignited buzz that the jaw-dropping Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2 finale death may not be real, teasing twists ahead and hinting Selena Gomez’s Alex Russo could still be in play.

If you watched the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Season 2 finale and thought, welp, Alex Russo is gone, you might want to pump the brakes. David Henrie just tossed a pretty big hint that Selena Gomez's wizard might not be as dead as the finale wanted you to think.

Henrie all but says: do not count Alex out

On October 8, 2025, Henrie posted on X (formerly Twitter) and basically told fans to keep digging.

"Just so you know, Alex Russo is tougher than you think - and there's a lot more to come. You're asking all the right questions. Stay tuned, #WizardsBeyond has got some magical surprises up our sleeves. #WizardsBeyondWaverlyPlace"

Translation: the show knows exactly what it did in that finale, and you were supposed to leave with question marks.

Quick recap of that wild finale

  • Episode title: 'The Wizard at the End of the World'.
  • Alex sacrifices herself to save her family from Lord Morsus, shoving him through a rift and seemingly dying in the process.
  • Before she disappears, she tells her daughter Billie: "We'll find each other again. I promise."
  • Yes, that episode confirms Billie is Alex's biological daughter.
  • Justin promises the family will search for Alex, leaving the door wide open for a continuation.
  • Final scene: Justin's sons, Milo and Roman, suggest Alex might be stuck in another dimension. Not subtle.
  • Implication: if Alex is out there somewhere, Morsus probably is too.

The tease behind the tease

Henrie also told TV Insider this was the biggest cliffhanger the Wizards world has ever done, and that there is an easter egg pointing to a larger mystery that still needs answers. That lines up cleanly with the finale's last scene and the not-so-final feel of Alex's goodbye. In other words, the ambiguity is on purpose.

What that likely means next

If you connect the dots Henrie laid out with the finale itself, the obvious setup is a rescue arc to bring Alex back from another realm, with Lord Morsus waiting in the wings for a rematch. Also worth noting: the finale literally tells you not to give up on her. That is TV code for: this story is not done.
