Will Violet Bridgerton Get Her Own Prequel Story After Queen Charlotte?
The success of Queen Charlotte may mean another Bridgerton spin-off is on the way. Here's what Shonda Rhimes has to say about it.
We all know how good Shonda Rhimes is with drama, and romance. The legendary writer often pushes the envelope, not limiting herself to the source material she works with.
Just look at what she did with Queen Charlotte — the supporting character from the Netflix show was turned into a star of her own prequel of the same name, and the audience loved that new addition to the Bridgerverse.
The prequel about young Charlotte and her love story with King George was released in early May, quickly becoming a fan-favorite show and scoring over 300 million viewing hours. As the new series is only six-episode long, many binge-watched it immediately, and there is now only one question on the minds of fans — who is the next character to get a spin-off of their own?
While the Bridgerverse is full of compelling characters who deserve to have their stories told, the first character that comes to mind is Violet Bridgerton.
The original show and Queen Charlotte laid a great foundation for a spin-off centered on the love story of Violet and Edmund Bridgerton. First, we saw the older Violet with her children and grandchildren, we saw her dealing with her husband's death through some flashbacks, and we even saw Violet as a teenager in the prequel.
Now, as some fans rightly argue, we need to see Violet fall in love and start a family with Edmund. After all, isn't that why Rhimes added the character to the prequel, ignoring the timeline of her own universe?
Fortunately, the showrunner is not opposed to this idea. While Rhimes is hesitant to make any promises, she has hinted that Violet's story could be next.
'There's no plan to explore anybody in particular. I was just doing this because I was so passionate about the subject,' Rhimes told Hello when asked about the next spin-off. 'Although, in writing it, I got very interested in Violet's story. So, we'll see.'
To keep fans' hopes up, the writer also added in her interview with EW that she was fascinated by Violet and her story.
'I am obsessed with Violet,' the showrunner said. 'She's very interesting as a character and has a lot of layers to her life that we don't quite know yet. It's also another complicated love story.'
No doubt this could be another masterpiece of Rhimes'. Hopefully, we'll see this complicated love story on screen soon enough.
