Will Trent Season 4 May Lose Two Cast Members

The network quietly renewed it earlier this year, and fans have been left rewatching season 3 reruns while waiting for actual news. Now we have some, and it's not exactly encouraging: two characters might be on the way out, and one of them just got here.

The show won't return until midseason 2026, and by then, two familiar faces may no longer be part of the main cast.

Gina Rodriguez

Rodriguez joined in season 3 as Assistant District Attorney Marion Alba and immediately became a romantic interest for Will. The storyline peaked fast: they went on one date, then decided to leave it there. By episode 12, she was already off the board.

Co-showrunner Liz Heldens confirmed she wouldn't appear again in season 3, blaming a bloated episode count and too many plotlines.

"Marion is not going to resurface before seasons' end," she told TV Line. "It's funny… when we started [Season 3], we were like, 'Oh, 18 episodes is the biggest order we've ever done!' And then when we got to the end, we were like, 'We don't have enough runway for everybody.'"

When asked about season 4, Heldens kept it vague:

"It was an amazing experience to work with her, and I wouldn't rule out her coming back in Season 4 at all."

Translation: they haven't made a decision, or they've made one and aren't ready to say it out loud.

Antwayn Hopper

Hopper played Rafael Wexford, who was arrested by Will, cut a deal with the FBI, and then relocated with his daughter. In other words, they gave him an easy off-ramp.

No formal announcement has been made about his future, but narratively speaking, he's been neatly packed away in a subplot that no longer intersects with the main cast.

So while Will Trent season 4 is still happening, it might be without two of its recent players. At this point, it's less of a casting shake-up and more of a slow quiet exit through the side door.
