Will Dr. Natalie Manning return to Chicago Med after Season 11? Torrey DeVitto sizes up the odds after six seasons in the main cast and guest turns in Seasons 7 and 8.

Torrey DeVitto is back on Chicago Med this season, and she is not shutting the door on more returns. If you have been missing Dr. Natalie Manning, Season 11 gives her a meaty mini-arc, some much-needed resolution, and a clear hint that the show could pull her back in again if and when it wants.

Where Natalie has been

  • Main cast for Seasons 1–6 as Dr. Natalie Manning
  • Popped back in as a guest during Seasons 7 and 8
  • Returns again in Season 11, specifically Episodes 2 and 3 (and for now, Episode 3 is reportedly her last appearance this season)
  • Has also played Natalie across the franchise on Chicago P.D. and Chicago Fire

What her Season 11 story does

Episode 3 puts Natalie through the wringer. She is pregnant, she wants to donate a kidney to her son, Owen, and it is every bit as complicated as it sounds. The episode steers things to a good place: Owen pulls through, Natalie is OK, and so is the baby. There is also a big emotional swing at the end: Owen agrees to be adopted by Dr. Will Halstead (played by Nick Gehlfuss). If you have been following their history, that is a pretty major button on their story.

Is she coming back again?

DeVitto told TV Insider she is absolutely open to it. She lives in Michigan full-time now, still loves that set, and called working there a second home.

"I would always be open to going back... It is like a home away from home."

About that 'closure'

DeVitto admits her original exit did not tie everything up. This time, she feels the show gave Natalie a cleaner landing. In her words, it is a better closure, and she thinks fans will feel good about where it leaves the character. Honestly, after the chaos her storylines have weathered, the calmer, clearer sendoff is welcome.

Chicago Med Season 11 airs Wednesdays on NBC.
