Will The Night Agent Season 4 Drop Earlier Than Expected?
Netflix’s high-octane hit The Night Agent is already fanning rumors of a Season 4 before Season 3 even drops, with fresh California film incentive filings hinting Peter Sutherland’s mission is far from over — just don’t expect the next chapter to land early next year.
Netflix is not waiting around with The Night Agent. Season 3 is still in post and aiming for early 2026, and already there is a big, very public hint that Season 4 is lining up right behind it. No, it is not dropping early next year, but the show is clearly gearing up to keep the momentum rolling.
So, is Season 4 actually happening?
Officially, Netflix has not announced a renewal. Unofficially, the tea leaves are bold. The California Film Commission approved a hefty tax credit for a new season of The Night Agent — Sony Pictures Television has secured $31.6 million to bring production to Los Angeles. That is not nothing. These credits are competitive and usually awarded to projects that are actually planning to shoot.
Creator Shawn Ryan knows his way around Los Angeles production (The Shield, The Unit, S.W.A.T.), and it sounds like he is steering the show home after a lot of passport stamps. Season 1 shot in Vancouver; Seasons 2 and 3 have been New York-heavy; the series has also ventured abroad, including Thailand. A Season 4 set in LA would be a sharp pivot — and a logistically savvy one.
"We are so excited to bring new thrills, new worlds, new stunts, new characters, and new adventures to our fans in Season 3. We will be spanning the globe."
The LA plan, by the numbers
- Tax credit: $31.6 million from California
- Estimated total budget: around $80 million
- Primary location: Los Angeles, with room for international stops
- Shoot length: 90 days
- Cast size: 178
- Crew: 334 base crew members
- Background work: 3,350 background-performer days
- Target start: early 2026 (if/when Netflix makes it official)
First, Season 3 has to land
Season 3 is finishing post now and eyeing an early 2026 premiere. Ryan has been talking up a major action swing this year — and by the sound of it, they went big.
"We filmed a car chase I think is going to be probably the most spectacular stunt sequence we have ever done on the show."
There are new players, too: Jennifer Morrison as the First Lady, Stephen Moyer as a top hitman, David Lyons as a former spy, and Genesis Rodriguez as a financial reporter.
Story-wise, Season 2 left Peter in a knot: he agreed to go double-agent, slipping inside Jacob Monroe's operation while angling to take down the newly elected President Hagan. Messy? Absolutely. That gray zone is kind of the point. Gabriel Basso summed up where Peter's head is likely headed:
"I think he is just going to be pulled in different directions and hopefully not torn in half."
Why Netflix would keep the gas pedal down
The show is a consistent performer. Season 2 launched at number one in 90 countries and pulled 13.9 million views in its first week. Numbers like that make a fourth season less a question and more a scheduling puzzle.
Speaking of schedules: the current plan has Season 3 premiering in early 2026 while Season 4 aims to start filming around that same window. That is an aggressive overlap, but it tracks with the franchise vibe — shoot fast, drop annually if possible, and keep the cliffhangers fresh.
The bottom line
No formal Season 4 pickup yet, but a $31.6 million California incentive, a pivot to LA, and Netflix-friendly ratings math all point the same way: Peter Sutherland is not done. Season 3 lands first in early 2026. Then, if the paperwork stays on track, cameras roll in Los Angeles soon after.
Until then, all seasons of The Night Agent are streaming on Netflix.
