Fresh off his Season 34 Mirrorball win—10 years after sister Bindi’s triumph—Robert Irwin reveals whether mom Terri will be the next Irwin to step onto the Dancing with the Stars ballroom floor.

Robert Irwin just won Dancing with the Stars Season 34, roughly a decade after his sister Bindi did the same. And now he has a new mission: convince his mom, Terri Irwin, to give the ballroom a shot. She is... not thrilled with that plan. He is not taking the hint.

So, is Terri Irwin doing DWTS?

Short answer: she says no. Robert told The Hollywood Reporter he is actively campaigning to get her on the show — he even joked he has people signing petitions — but Terri keeps shutting it down and saying it is not for her. Robert, being Robert, says he is going to keep at it because he thinks she would be great on the show.

His pitch to Mom

Robert swears the family's dance talent comes from Terri. He laughed that his dad, Steve Irwin, had all the athleticism in the world but zero rhythm, so the dancing genes must be from Mom. In his mind, that makes it only fair that she steps onto the DWTS floor at least once.

Quick Irwin/DWTS refresher

  • Robert and partner Witney Carson won the Season 34 Mirrorball on November 25.
  • Bindi Irwin won back in 2015 with Derek Hough — nearly ten years ago.
  • Terri has not competed, but she did join Robert and Witney onstage in October during the show's Dedication Night for an emotional number to Phil Collins' 'You’ll Be in My Heart.'

Where this goes next

Robert says he is going to keep nudging, persuading, and generally wearing Terri down until she says yes. No promises from Mom yet, but if he actually gets her to do it, that would be must-see TV.

'My mom is just such a kind and vulnerable and strong and steadfast human being.'

That is Robert to PEOPLE on why he keeps championing her — and why he thinks the DWTS audience would fall for her too.
