Will Liam Hemsworth Replace Cavill in The Witcher Season 3 Finale?
Fans are worried the change might come sooner than expected.
Actors and their characters blend together in the audience's perception, and whenever producers have to recast characters for their shows or movies, viewers normally don't welcome such drastic changes. That's why fans of Netflix's The Witcher now feel disheartened and confused about what the future may hold for the beloved series.
The third installment of The Witcher has just premiered its first five episodes, and people are extremely happy to return to the magical world of Andrzej Sapkowski's novel series. Another good news is that the project has been greenlit by Netflix for future seasons, but with that in mind, fans are worried about Henry Cavill, who now portrays Geralt of Rivia, being replaced by Liam Hemsworth in the upcoming installments. Will this change take place next season or earlier, fans wonder?
Superman actor Henry Cavill is actually an avid fan of Andrzej Sapkowski's novels, so he tried to flesh out his character and make Geralt as book-accurate as he possibly could in Netflix's adaptation. Cavill apparently enjoyed his time on The Witcher set but was forced to leave the project due to scheduling conflicts (or creative differences with the show's writers, as some evidence suggests).
Now, some fans are afraid that Cavill will be kicked out from the series earlier than expected, with Liam Hemsworth stepping up as Geralt in the final episode of the current installment.
Per Netflix, the Hunger Games actor will play the Witcher starting from Season 4, and no announcement has been made about his early introduction to the show. However, as the series' executive producer Tomasz Bagiński recently revealed, The Witcher is going to try to handle the transition from one actor to another in a smooth, lore-accurate way. Here's what Bagiński actually said:
'We have a very, very good plan to introduce our new Geralt and our new vision for Geralt with Liam […] it's also very, very close to the meta ideas which are deeply embedded in the books, especially in book five.'
If the book scenes that the producer is referring to are going to be adapted in the Season 3 finale, there is a good chance we'll see two Geralts in a single episode — and this transition may be rather awkward and surprising, rather than seamless. For now, it looks like Cavill will continue to portray the character until the end of the season, and Hemsworth will pick up the role in Season 4.
Anyway, to find out the truth, we'll have to wait until the three remaining episodes of The Witcher Season 3 drop on Netflix on July 27, 2023.
