Will JD Pardo's Exit Doom High Potential's New Couple?

High Potential fans might want to brace themselves — the show's newest romance could be dead on arrival in Season 2.
JD Pardo, who plays Tom, Morgan Gillory's charming janitor-turned-nurse love interest, has just been cast as a series regular on Netflix's upcoming thriller Trinity. That alone raises serious doubts about whether his character has any future in High Potential, especially since the Season 1 finale already had Tom relocating to San Diego for work.
Long-distance relationships are tough. Long-distance relationships across different networks? Practically impossible.
There's no official word yet on how High Potential plans to handle Tom's absence, but back in February, showrunner Todd Harthan sounded optimistic:
"I love the guy, and I love the character," Harthan told TVLine. "There's a lot of affection, and nobody did anything bad to each other. There's a lovely thing there, so who knows?"
That "who knows" is looking shakier now. High Potential is already filming Season 2, while Trinity hasn't started production — so a guest spot isn't totally off the table. But Pardo's new commitment makes a full return unlikely.
For viewers keeping score, here's where Morgan's love life stands:
- Tom (JD Pardo): Relocated to San Diego, actor now tied up with Trinity.
- Karadec (Daniel Sunjata): Morgan's co-worker and the obvious "will they/won't they" candidate.
- Ludo (Taran Killam): Still a mystery, especially regarding his past with his ex.
On that last front, Harthan teased that more answers are coming:
"I think the audience has a real appetite to find out what really happened. What was it like the day they sat down and had a conversation about what wasn't working? How did they decide how they should co-parent? What caused that? So now it's our job to come up with a story."
Season 2 of High Potential is currently in production, but no official release date has been set yet. Meanwhile, Trinity on Netflix has yet to announce its filming start date.
Fans hoping for Morgan and Tom to reunite might need to manage their expectations — though anyone rooting for Morgan and Karadec probably just saw their odds improve.
