Will Apple TV+ Renew Platonic for Season 3 or Pull the Plug?

If you are waiting to hear what is going on with Platonic after Season 2, same. Here is the lay of the land without the runaround.

Where things stand right now

• No decision yet: Apple TV+ has not renewed or canceled Platonic for Season 3.
• No fresh intel from the people making it either: the creators have not announced anything about a new season.
• What will decide it: the usual stuff — audience response and viewership stats. Translation: if enough people watched (and finished) Season 2, that helps.
• Why fans are hopeful: the show is well-liked, and Season 2 wrapped with plenty of goodwill still aimed at the central duo.
• If you are new: Platonic is a comedy about adult friendship, life detours, and the chaos that comes with both.

The inside baseball

This part is interesting: Platonic did not start as the Rose Byrne/Seth Rogen vehicle we now know. It was originally pitched as an anthology with a new cast each season. Then the creative team realized that letting go of Byrne and Rogen would be a terrible idea, because their chemistry basically runs the show.

"They have such amazing chemistry together, and it was such a great experience that we decided to ask them if they would be open to doing more, and they said yes... I remember [Apple] said, 'Who is going to want to watch a season two without them?'"

That is series co-creator Nicholas Stoller, talking to The Hollywood Reporter, and it tells you exactly why the creative plan shifted after Season 1.

So, will there be a Season 3?

Short answer: we do not know yet. But if Platonic does come back, it is hard to imagine it without Byrne and Rogen, given that the show literally pivoted away from an anthology format to keep them front and center. That bodes well for their return if a renewal happens.
