Why Isn't There a Fourth Tom Holland Spider-Man Movie Yet? Actor Weighs In
Tom Holland has explained why his character has yet to get a fourth installment.
Summary
- Holland's Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters in the MCU.
- The actor is still eager to play the superhero in future films.
- The creative team behind Spider-Man is working on the fourth film slowly but surely.
Today, the Marvel Cinematic Universe is one of, if not the, largest and most successful media franchises in the world. The MCU includes dozens of movies and TV shows that have grossed billions of dollars over the years. For instance, Avengers: Endgame remains the second highest-grossing film five years after its release with a staggering $2.8 billion in box office receipts.
In addition to the variety of films and shows, the MCU has also introduced a plethora of remarkable characters to audiences around the world over the years. From Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man (RIP) to Chris Hemsworth's Thor to Brie Larson's Captain Marvel, there are many fan-favorite superheroes in Marvel's films.
Few, however, are as popular as Tom Holland's adorable Spider-Man, which is perhaps why his leg of the Cinematic Universe is so beloved by audiences.
There have been three Spider-Man movies so far. Needless to say, most Marvel fans are looking forward to the fourth installment. But it seems that Spider-Man 4 is still a long way from hitting the big screen. Here's what Tom Holland himself has to say.
Is Tom Holland Tired of Spider-Man?
Although there are only three Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland, the British actor has played the character in at least six Marvel films. And while it's definitely an iconic role for him, it's clear that it may have become tiresome over the years. But the truth is, Tom Holland will never turn his back on Spider-Man.
'The simple answer is that I'll always want to do Spider-Man films,' the actor said in a recent interview. 'I owe my life and career to Spider-Man. So the simple answer is yes. I'll always want to do more.'
At the same time, Holland's willingness to reprise the role of the quirky superhero does not mean that there will be a fourth Spider-Man movie anytime soon. The reason is simple. The next movie has to be good, and it can't repeat the stories and patterns of the three existing films.
When to Expect Spider-Man 4?
At this point, Tom Holland, who has been involved in the creative process for future Spider-Man films, doesn't know when the next movie in his character's film series will see the light of day. First, they have to come up with a good story to tell.
'We have the best in the business working toward whatever the story might be. But until we've cracked it, we have a legacy to protect,' the actor said, adding that they can't afford to let fans down after the huge success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. 'Everyone wants it to happen. But we want to make sure we're not overdoing the same things.'
Hopefully, the next Spider-Man movie will be worth the wait.
