Corey Mylchreest: from The Sandman to King George - a rising star's journey in historical drama and fantasy adaptations.
The world of Bridgerton has become renowned for its ability to unearth emerging talents, propelling them into the spotlight. In this tradition, the recently-released prequel spin-off, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, has introduced audiences to a new ensemble cast, including the promising Corey Mylchreest, who masterfully embodies the younger rendition of King George III.
But did you know that he also landed a role in the highly anticipated adaptation of The Sandman?
Corey Mylchreest is a British actor who honed his craft at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2020. This prestigious drama school boasts an impressive list of alumni, including Luke Thompson, Anthony Hopkins, and Matthew Rhys, among many other distinguished graduates.
During his time there, Mylchreest showcased his versatility through various Shakespear productions, such as Macbeth and Hamlet, as well as plays, including Mysterious Bruises and Tales From the Vienna Woods.
While the prequel marked a significant milestone in the actor's budding career, it wasn't his first television appearance. In fact, he made his debut on another Netflix production - Neil Gaiman's The Sandman. In the 2022 fantasy series, based on the eponymous comic book, he portrayed Adonis in the first episode. Although his appearance was fairly brief, this initial exposure undoubtedly gave way to him becoming a series regular.
Despite his newcomer status, Mylchreest's delivery in Queen Charlotte has been praised for its subtle nuance. When speaking with Entertainment Tonight, the young star discussed what it's like to portray the multifaceted character that is George. 'It was a privilege to be able to play George in general. He is a man, affliction aside, who has a wide spectrum of behavior, which, as an actor is amazing,' he revealed.
But, of course, as he disclosed to Town & Country Magazine, it was still all very new to him. 'For the first few weeks of filming, I was a bit of a deer in the headlights,' he said. However, there were two things that helped him get into character: a ring with George's initials and one of the theme songs from Succession.
Corey Mylchreest's meteoric rise in the entertainment industry is a testament to his undeniable talent and dedication to his craft. As fans eagerly await his future projects, it's evident that this rising actor possesses the potential to become a prominent figure in both the realm of historical drama and fantasy adaptations.
