P Diddy’s stint at Brooklyn’s MDC has turned perilous: according to new reports, a knife-wielding inmate got dangerously close, sparking fresh alarm over his safety.

Quick update from the Diddy beat: he is still at MDC Brooklyn after sentencing, and the latest word is not great. A friend says someone slipped into his cell with a homemade blade and got close enough to put it on his throat. The details are sketchy, but the implication is clear: he is not safe in there.

The reported knife incident

Charlucci Finney, a longtime friend of Sean 'Diddy' Combs, told the Daily Mail that an inmate armed with a shiv got into Diddy’s cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn and woke him up with the weapon at his neck. Finney admits he does not know exactly how it ended or who intervened, but he says it did happen.

'He woke up with a knife to his throat. I don't know whether he fought him off or the guards came, I just know that it happened.'

Finney’s read on it is that it was meant as a warning, not a full-on murder attempt. In his words, if the guy truly wanted to kill Diddy, he could have done it in a second with that kind of weapon. He frames it as intimidation meant to rattle him, adding that won’t work because, well, Diddy is from Harlem.

How we got here: the case, the sentence, the timeline

  • September 2024: Diddy is arrested and held at MDC Brooklyn, where, according to his defense, conditions have been rough from day one.
  • During the federal trial: His lawyers repeatedly raise safety concerns, saying he is a target inside.
  • July 2025: He is convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution.
  • October 3: He is sentenced to 50 months in federal prison (four years and two months).
  • Since sentencing: He remains at MDC, where the alleged shiv incident reportedly took place inside his cell.

Conditions at MDC, per the defense

Diddy’s attorney Brian Steel has been telling outlets like TMZ that his client has a target on his back because some inmates think they gain status by hurting a high-profile prisoner. Steel says a guard previously stopped an inmate with a homemade blade, and that Diddy’s housing situation is grim: a crowded room with around two dozen men, rampant drug use and violence, and almost no real sleep. According to Steel, Diddy has barely slept more than two hours at a time and is mostly getting by on chips. None of that is unusual to hear about MDC, but it paints a pretty specific picture of what they say he is dealing with day to day.

The push to move him to Fort Dix

Because of all that, Diddy’s lawyers are now trying to get him out of MDC and into FCI Fort Dix, a low-security facility in Hanover Township, New Jersey. The Daily Mail reports they have written to Judge Arun Subramanian asking him to recommend Fort Dix to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. The pitch: Fort Dix would be safer, closer to family, and would let Diddy join a drug rehab program.

Finney, for his part, says the danger at MDC is partly about the charges themselves. In his view, people locked up on sex-related offenses are singled out by other prisoners looking for what they call prison justice. And in this case, we’re not talking about someone anonymous; he points out that Diddy’s fame only amplifies the risk.

Where it stands

As of now, there’s no sign the transfer is approved. Diddy remains at MDC Brooklyn, and his camp is treating the alleged shiv incident as the latest proof that he needs to be moved before something worse happens.
