No new It: Welcome to Derry hit HBO on November 2, leaving fans of the 1960s-set prequel from creators Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane waiting as the series inches toward the first film adaptation and a family’s ominous arrival in Derry.

If you opened Max on Sunday night and thought, 'Wait, where is the new It: Welcome to Derry?', you did not miss anything. The show just played a little schedule hop for Halloween.

So, was there a new episode on November 2?

Yes and no, depending on where you watched.

Episode 2, titled 'The Thing in the Dark', hit Max early as a Halloween treat. It dropped on Friday, October 31 at 12:00 am PT. Then, for folks watching the linear channel, HBO aired that same episode at its usual time on Sunday, November 2. So if you were looking for a fresh upload on Max that night, there was nothing new because it had already arrived on Halloween.

Quick refresher on the show

Created by Jason Fuchs and Brad Caleb Kane, It: Welcome to Derry is a 1960s-set supernatural horror prequel that leads into the first film adaptation of It. The setup is classic Derry: a family moves to town with their son, and things immediately get weird in the worst possible way.

The series premiered on Sunday, October 26, 2025, with a Sunday release pattern... until Halloween bumped Episode 2 early on streaming.

Where the story is right now

Last we saw, a crew of four misfit kids launched a search for a missing classmate. Major Leroy Hanlon arrived at Derry Air Force Base and got a mixed welcome (and yes, that last name should sound familiar to It fans). In Episode 2, Charlotte and Will are trying to settle into Derry life, while Ronnie starts to spiral about what might have happened to his dad.
