Where Are They Now? See the Cast of True Blood 15 Years Later
From fangs to fame… what has the True Blood cast been up to 15 years later?
In 2008, a new sultry and supernatural television series crashed onto our screens. True Blood instantly proved itself a hit, introducing us to the attractive vampires of the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps. Fast forward 15 years, and while the series might have ended, its stars have continued to captivate audiences appearing in various new roles.
Let's take a look at where the cast of True Blood are now.
Anna Paquin (Sookie Stackhouse)
Anna Paquin's portrayal of the endearing lead character Sookie Stackhouse won hearts from the beginning. Since leaving the vampire drama, Paquin has ventured into both new film and television. Notably, she starred in the critically acclaimed miniseries 'Flack,' where she played a public relations guru with a knack for solving her clients’ PR nightmares. In her own life, Paquin has also embraced motherhood, raising twins with her husband and co-star Stephen Moyer.
Stephen Moyer (Bill Compton)
Following the end of the series, Moyer's career has embarked on a remarkable upward trajectory. He has appeared in several particularly diverse TV roles, such as the captivating drama 'The Gifted.' Charmingly, the on-screen chemistry he shared with his fellow True Blood star, Anna Paquin, transcended into reality as their affection blossomed on and off-screen. Since both marrying in 2010 and having children of their own, they have cemented their position as a cherished and iconic Hollywood duo.
Alex Skarsgård (Eric Northman)
After captivating audiences as Eric Northman, Skarsgård's popularity soared to new heights. After winning an Emmy for his role in 'Big Little Lies' and portraying Tarzan in the blockbuster of the same name, his career has remained unstoppable. Additionally, as well as starring in these big blockbusters, he has still had the time for other prominent roles in 'Succession,' 'Infinity Pool,' and even 'Zoolander.'
Sam Trammell (Sam Merlotte)
Trammell certainly added depth to the series with his portrayal of the mysterious shapeshifter Sam Merlotte. And post True Blood, his career has continued to flourish. As well as being nominated for a Tony Award, he has appeared in projects such as 'Homeland,' 'Nancy Drew and the Hidden Staircase,' and 'Organ Trail.' In his personal life, Trammell also welcomed twins with his partner, actress Missy Yager, in 2011.
Nelsan Ellis (Lafayette)
Nelsan Ellis's portrayal of the vivacious Lafayette became an iconic part of the show. Tragically, Ellis passed away in 2017. His post-True Blood endeavors included roles in films like 'The Butler' and 'Get On Up,' showcasing his range as an actor. Still, his memory lives on through his remarkable work and the fans that supported him.
Rutina Wesley (Tara Thornton)
Rutina Wesley's appearance in the series resonated deeply with audiences. Since her time as Tara Thornton, Wesley has taken on a number of diverse roles, including a lead part in the series 'Queen Sugar.' Most recently, she also appeared in the hugely popular zombie series 'The Last of Us' and is set to return in season 2. It's clear that Wesley continues to captivate in every role she takes on.
Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse)
Ryan Kwanten's portrayal of the lovable Jason Stackhouse added humor and heart to True Blood. But after the series wrapped, Kwanten's career has diversified, taking different roles in films such as 'The Hurricane Heist' and '2067,' showcasing his versatility as an actor. Kwanten seems to keep mostly to himself in his personal life, but we assume, at least from his acting career, that he is doing reasonably well.
Carrie Preston (Arlene)
Carrie Preston became a fan favorite on the show with her quirky character portrayal of Arlene. Since her time in the series, she has continued to remain active within the TV industry. Both from starring in other critically acclaimed series, such as 'The Good Wife' and its spin-off 'The Good Fight.' She has also since begun her directing career, showcasing her talents both in front and behind the camera.
Deborah Ann Woll (Jessica)
Deborah Ann Woll played Jessica Hamby in the series, a vampire learning the ropes of immortality. Post-show, Woll continued to shine in the TV series 'Daredevil' and later as the same character in 'The Punisher,' where she played aspiring journalist Karen Page. She has also voiced parts in video games, including God of War: Ragnarök as the role of Laufey. Woll has seen as much success in her personal life since the show, marrying comedian E.J.Scott in 2018.
