Fresh off its December 19, 2025 theatrical debut, the adaptation of Freida McFadden’s The Housemaid has thriller fans buzzing—and laser-focused on the big question: when will this psychological chiller hit streaming?

If you missed The Housemaid in theaters or you just prefer your thrillers on the couch, here’s where things stand on when you can actually stream it.

So, when can you watch The Housemaid at home?

Lionsgate hasn’t announced a streaming date yet, but based on their usual rollout, here’s the realistic timeline for this one. The movie hit theaters on December 19, 2025, it’s a psychological thriller based on Freida McFadden’s novel, and the at-home plan should look like this:

  • Digital rent/buy (PVOD): Typically 30–45 days after theatrical for Lionsgate. That puts The Housemaid on platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV in late January to February 2026.
  • Streaming: First stop is Starz. Because Starz has an exclusive deal with Lionsgate for its movies, the subscription streaming window usually lands about 3–4 months after theatrical. Expect March to April 2026, with March being the earliest realistic arrival.

Why that estimate?

Recent precedent lines up. From the World of John Wick: Ballerina opened on June 6, 2025, hit digital purchase/rental on July 1, 2025, and then arrived on Starz in September 2025. If Lionsgate runs the same play here, The Housemaid should mirror that cadence: PVOD first, then Starz a few months later.

How’s the buzz?

Pretty solid. The Housemaid is sitting at a 78% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes right now. The movie’s also one of those genre swings that feels designed for a lively at-home watch once it lands.

Who’s behind it and what’s it about?

Paul Feig directs, which might raise an eyebrow if you know him mostly for comedy. He’s talked about aiming for a tension-and-release vibe this time, which tracks with the movie’s tone.

"I love Jordan Peele. I think he’s brilliant. But I’m probably most inspired by Hitchcock, I think. Just because I love the tone of Hitchcock movies, because they’re tense and they’re scary and they’re thrilling and all that, but they’re also kind of funny at the same time. Because he finds these funny side characters, and he was really good at releasing the tension with a laugh. So I think that’s definitely a big influence for me," Feig said to SlashFilm.

The setup: a young woman, freshly out on parole, tries to reset her life by taking a job as a housemaid for a very wealthy couple. That second chance quickly curdles as their secrets start bubbling up. The cast includes Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, and Michele Morrone, among others.

Bottom line

Barring any curveballs, plan on renting or buying The Housemaid digitally between late January and February 2026, and streaming it on Starz sometime in March or April 2026. If Lionsgate sticks to its pattern, March is your best bet for that first subscription drop.
