Weapons And 4 Other Most Anticipated Horror Movies to Be Released in the Summer of 2025

From one of the year's most scandalous releases to a remake of a cult 1990s slasher film.
Hot summers have traditionally been fertile ground for genre cinema, especially horror. Nowadays, horror films are staples of the summer blockbuster schedule, offering viewers spectacle, catharsis, and social commentary.
1. Weapons
Release Date: August 8, 2025
Zach Cregger, the creator of the satirical horror film Barbarian, finished work on his new film ahead of schedule. As a result, the release of Weapons was moved up from early 2026 to mid-2025.
The plot of the upcoming horror movie takes place in a small town where, for unknown and frightening reasons, students in one class disappear.
All of the children, except for one boy, leave their beds late at night and never return. Society blames the teacher for the tragedy, as rumors claim she had a great influence on the students.
2. 28 Years Later
Release Date: June 20, 2025
28 Years Later is the first film in a new horror trilogy by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland. It is the spiritual successor to 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later.
The action of the trilogy will unfold in the same reality as the previous two films, but with new characters and locations. Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, and Jack O'Connell play the main roles. The plot centers on a group of people trying to rebuild civilization after a zombie apocalypse.
3. I Know What You Did Last Summer
Release Date: July 18, 2025
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson teamed up with Sarah Michelle Gellar for a revival of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Gellar served as a consultant on the remake and did her best to recreate the atmosphere of the original cult film on set.
However, Amazon Prime Video's latest attempt to reboot I Know What You Did Last Summer hasn't done well. Hopefully, including the original cast will help the remake appeal to old-school fans and new audiences alike.
4. Together
Release Date: July 30, 2025
The buzz surrounding the body horror film Together, starring Alison Brie and Dave Franco, has significantly outpaced its scheduled release.
The first positive reviews of Together came from the Sundance Film Festival, where Neon acquired the distribution rights. However, last week, Brie and Franco, who served as executive producers on the film, were accused of plagiarizing the 2023 romantic comedy Better Half.
The lawsuit filed against Brie and Franco notes that Patrick Henry Phelan, the creator of Better Half, introduced them to the concept of his film in 2020.
5. The Ritual
Release Date: June 6, 2025
The Ritual is Hollywood's latest attempt to reimagine William Friedkin's timeless classic The Exorcist.
The plot centers on two very different priests: Theophilus Riesinger and Joseph Steiger. One is about to lose his spiritual connection with God; the other cannot let go of the events of his difficult past.
They must put their personal problems and disagreements aside because the life of Emma Schmidt, a young woman rumored to be possessed by demons, is at stake.
