That finale left fans clamoring for more. Though conceived as a miniseries, Wayward may not be done yet — the creator has hinted at stories beyond the ending, fueling real buzz for a potential Season 2.

Wayward wrapped like a show that wanted you to keep thinking about it, which is exactly why everyone is now asking if Netflix is going to make a Season 2. Short answer: there is no official yes or no yet. Slightly longer answer: it was designed as a miniseries, but the people who made it clearly see more story on the table.

Where Season 2 stands right now

Netflix has not renewed or canceled Wayward. Because it was built as a limited series, the odds are naturally lower than your average ongoing drama. Still, the creative team is not acting like the book is closed.

What the creator is saying

Creator Mae Martin has been pretty candid about the push-pull here. On one hand, they were told this was a limited run. On the other, the ending obviously leaves a lot of dangling threads.

"I was told it was a miniseries, but there is definitely more story to tell, I think. We left all those characters in crisis, basically. Hopefully it is tied up enough that it is satisfying to watch as a series."

The cast would come back

Toni Collette, who plays Evelyn Wade, sounds very game to keep going, calling the world of the show, well, kind of bottomless.

"It is endlessly intriguing. Endlessly. So many places it could go, for sure."

And the younger cast is ready to return if Netflix makes the call. Students Abbie and Leila - played by Sydney Topliffe and Alyvia Alyn Lind - have already put their hands up. In their words:

  • Sydney Topliffe: "I would love to come back."
  • Alyvia Alyn Lind: "Mae, if you are listening, we are here. We are ready."

The reality check

Here is the complicating factor. Martin has also pointed out the show ends with, let us say, a high body count, and that has consequences in the real world version of this story.

"I feel like the FBI would be in there pretty fast. There are so many dead people now."

That is not nothing. If Wayward returns, it probably cannot just pick up where it left off without acknowledging the massive fallout. Inside baseball note: limited series do evolve into ongoing shows sometimes, but it usually takes a creative pivot that justifies the extension.

So, will we go back to Tall Pine?

There is interest from the people who matter, but Netflix has not made a call. Fans hoping to revisit Tall Pine might get their wish, but right now it is Schrödinger's Season 2.

If you are catching up or planning a rewatch, all episodes of Wayward are streaming on Netflix.
