If the next chapter comes, it will bring things to a close.

Summary

  • With Season 2 now over, fans want to know if Our Flag Means Death will get a third season.
  • David Jenkins revealed on Instagram that if Max renews the show, he plans to make the next installment the last.
  • The ratings of the second season are promising.

Our Flag Means Death (OFMD) Season 2 finale hit us hard. Things took an unexpected turn, with our favorite pirates ending up a complete mess. At least Ed and Stede had a kind of happy ending. But have things really come to an end, or is it just a pause before new adventures?

In other words, what we really want or rather need to know now is if there will be a third season.

David Jenkins On Board if Max Is Game

While Max hasn't officially renewed OFMD for a new chapter, showrunner David Jenkins has made it clear that the show's future depends on the viewership numbers of Season 2.

When he announced the premiere of the second installment on his Instagram in August, Jenkins, as usual, took to the comments section and sent the show's fan base into a frenzy by responding to writer and comedian Kristin Chirico, who wrote that they dreamed of being a part of the filming process.

'help get us picked up for a third (and final) season, and we'll talk,' Jenkins wrote to the joy of all fans.

This brief reply suggests the creator has a plan for a third and final chapter in the story of Blackbeard and the Gentleman Pirate and that for season 3 to happen, Season 2 needs to have sufficiently high ratings.

Season 2’s Performance

OFMD is a sleeper hit, meaning it took a while for the general public to discover the show, but once they did, demand for it only increased. The most recent data from The Wrap suggests Jenkins's pirate masterpiece has surpassed some of Max's flagship shows to top the streamer's charts.

That means there is a very good chance that the show will be renewed for a third season, in which Jenkins plans to wrap things up. And there is no need to worry about the lack of news from the studio.

Season 2 got the go-ahead just three months after the Season 1 finale. Given the current state of affairs in Hollywood, Max will probably want to wait until the actors' strike gets resolved before making any official statements about OFMD Season 3.

So keep your hopes up, OFMD fans. The ship has not sailed yet.
