Virgin River Season 6 Might Face a Very Serious Problem
The show's notorious pacing might have a detrimental effect on the sixth installment.
Summary
- Virgin River's pacing could lead to unconvincing storytelling in season 6.
- The age gap between the cast and their characters will be the main problem.
- Mel and Jack's age difference will become more apparent in the sixth installment.
Since its release in 2019, Virgin River has been a fan-favorite Netflix show that helped many viewers get distracted from reality and feel good for a brief moment. At the same time, the romantic drama has been severely ridiculed for one particular thing over its entire five-season run.
The show's incomprehensible pacing has been the stumbling block for many fans for years now.
Although Mel Monroe is the main character of the series, it also chronicles many fascinating events involving various other residents of Virgin River. In fact, the drama is so eventful that viewers seem to lose their sense of time, which is why many are shocked to learn that just over a year has passed on the show since Melinda's arrival in town. And this time difference will have very obvious consequences in the upcoming sixth season.
The Actors' Appearances
Considering that in the real world it's been over five years since the first episode of Virgin River was filmed, the show's cast has aged considerably. Furthermore, since Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson, who play the show's central duo, Mel and Jack, were already four years older than their characters, the current age difference between the actors and their roles will be stark.
Martin Henderson, for example, will be eight years older than Jack. And while audiences have grown accustomed to his rugged physique, the actor's appearance seems to have changed recently. For example, Henderson's fans have noticed that his face looks smoother than before, suggesting that the actor may have had a facial treatment, which could ruin Jack's image on Virgin River.
The Contrast Between Mel and Jack
In the show, Mel is supposed to be thirty-two when she first arrives in Virgin River, which makes her eight years younger than Jack. And in the case of Alexandra Breckenridge, she actually looks the part. As a result, the already large age gap between the characters may visually increase in Season 6.
Surely there's nothing wrong with that. After all, Virgin River is famous for bringing characters together regardless of race, age, etc. – just look at Muriel and Cameron's romance. However, it's going to be hard not to notice when the show revolves around Mel and Jack. So let's hope that season 6 won't be riddled with such inconsistencies, shall we?
