She has changed too drastically over the last couple of seasons.

Summary

  • Virgin River has featured a lot of characters, some of whom are not beloved by the audience.
  • Lizzie has been inconsistent since her first appearance on the show.
  • This character flaw affects the entirety of VR.

Since its premiere in 2019, Virgin River has remained one of Netflix's most popular series. Set in the fictional titular Northern California town, the romantic drama has attracted hordes of fans over its five-season run and is likely to gain more admirers as its sixth installment is currently in production.

The Netflix show centers on Melinda Monroe, a thirtysomething woman who suffers the loss of her husband and decides to move to Virgin River to find solace, and explores her new life as she builds friendships and navigates the difficulties of her on-again, off-again romance with the town's bar owner, Jack Sheridan.

However, VR also follows many other exciting characters, some of whom are beloved by fans, and some of whom draw nothing but the ire of the audience. But there's one character that viewers can't seem to agree on, as she's been terribly inconsistent throughout the show.

Lizzie Means Chaos

Making her debut in Season 2 of Virgin River, Lizzie made a mixed first impression on viewers. As a troubled teenager wreaking havoc in the titular town, she didn't exactly bask in fan adoration. However, Lizzie wasn't hated by viewers either, as she wasn't a bad person, but her behavior clearly didn't earn her any sympathy. Moreover, as Virgin River went on, we began to see more and more flaws in her character.

For example, Lizzie's romance with Ricky is the epitome of inconsistency. When she first arrived in Virgin River, the young woman rejected Ricky's advances and tried to seduce Brady, who was considerably older than her. Then, after Dan rejected her, she began a romance with Ricky. At that time, we also learned that despite Lizzie's casual drinking and chaotic lifestyle, she was a virgin, which made no sense.

Further Inconsistencies

As Lizzie and Ricky's romance developed and the two were visibly in love, it was very surprising, to say the least, to see her break up with him over his lies and move on to date Denny in the blink of an eye.

And now that the two of them are expecting a child and planning their wedding and family life, it's almost impossible to wrap your head around the fact that it's been a little over a year since Lizzie arrived in the world of Virgin River, and she's transformed from a rebellious teenager into a reliable young mother-to-be.

Certainly, this character growth is good for Lizzie. But it's not very convincing and actually hurts the story in general.
