Stranger Things began as a sci-fi series inspired by the pop culture of the 1980s, and its first seasons were quite cozy despite the supernatural events and the characters' misadventures. However, as the show progressed, the story started to feel more horror-like, and some of the tragic and shocking deaths that took part in the latest season left fans totally traumatized.
The main villain behind those deaths is Vecna, the series' antagonist who took center stage in Season 4. After his arrival, a lot of the show's characters perished — but whose fate was the worst? Stranger Things fans took to Reddit to discuss the options.
Many people agreed that one of the most terrible deaths was Jason's.
'The most horrific? Jason because he got ripped in half,' one of the fans said.
Given his religious fanaticism, Jason was not the most sympathetic character, but he was just an ordinary teenager, blinded by grief after losing his girlfriend, Chrissy. Though some people say his death was 'karmic,' he certainly didn't deserve to be torn in two.
And actually, his girlfriend's death was no less horrific.
'Chrissy's death was a bummer even if she wasn't on screen for long, because she had just enough screen time for the audience to sympathize with her, and her chemistry with Eddie made it so I wanted to see her survive even though the plot required a first victim,' another fan said.
The toughest part was reliving her gruesome final moments as Chrissy was trying to escape Vecna within her mind. The graphic details of what happened to her body in reality made it even more horrifying for fans to watch.
However, it was Barbara Holland, Nancy's friend, whose death was mentioned the most. Not only was she trapped in an empty pool in the Upside Down, but unlike the other victims, she knew exactly what fate awaited her. And the Demogorgon deliberately delayed killing her to make her final moments more painful.
'I think Barb is the hardest to watch because it was so dragged out. She kept on fighting & reaching only to continue being dragged back down to the pool. She was aware the whole time she was not making it,' a fan pointed out.
The upcoming Season 5 is sure to be even more terrifying for the beloved characters, as Vecna will do everything in his power to take revenge on the residents of Hawkins in the most brutal way possible.
