Untamed: What Happened to Jane Doe Will Make Your Skin Crawl

Netflix's Untamed turns Yosemite's El Capitan into the stage for one of TV's most disturbing mysteries.
A Jane Doe who fell from the 3,000-foot peak is revealed to be Lucy Cook, a girl who vanished from the park in 2012. What seems like a tragic accident becomes a story of blackmail, betrayal, and a family secret that destroys the man everyone trusted most.
The Jane Doe mystery
- Jane Doe is identified as Lucy Cook, missing since 2012.
- Rookie ranger Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago) links her to an old Yosemite file.
- Agent Kyle Turner (Eric Bana) discovers Lucy wasn't running from a fall — she was running from someone.
"Turner is a decorated agent, but he has had some personal trauma and this case is going to dredge that up for him," co-creator Elle Smith explained.
The truth about Lucy
Lucy had spent years drifting, caught up in Yosemite's underground drug trade. At first, suspicion fell on wildlife officer Shane Maguire (Wilson Bethel). But when he was killed during the investigation, Turner refused to accept the case as closed.
The trail led back to chief ranger Paul Souter (Sam Neill), Turner's mentor and the series' most trusted figure. He is revealed to be Lucy's biological father, the product of an affair her mother had hidden for decades.
When Lucy resurfaced, she blackmailed him, threatening to expose the truth. Chasing her across El Capitan, Souter fired a warning shot. Lucy ran to the cliff's edge and leapt.
"He's not a cruel person," co-creator Mark L. Smith said. "He was trying to protect his family, but he missed one of them. And then it just got worse and worse, and it became this."
Bana called filming the reveal with Neill unforgettable: "It was always going to be a gut punch with the way it's revealed. To be let down by him in the end, it's just so much for him."
Turner's fallout
By the finale, Turner is suspended, his marriage in ruins after learning his ex-wife Jill (Rosemarie DeWitt) had Maguire kill their son's murderer years earlier. He parts ways with Vasquez, leaves Yosemite, and finally begins to move on from Caleb's death.
"At the beginning of Untamed, Turner is a man ready to say goodbye to the world," Mark explained. "And then the radio call that Lucy has been found stops that."
Netflix has already renewed Untamed for a second season. Mark L. Smith teased that Turner will be taken out of Yosemite entirely:
"Instead of Turner being in his element, he'll be in a land where he doesn't understand all the dangers and the risks, and he doesn't understand the people around him. He'll be a little bit on his back foot and a little bit unsure, and he'll have to learn as well."
