Why would Nutsa want to sabotage herself?

We are just a few weeks away from finding out who the new American Idol champion will be when the Season 21 finale airs on May 21. Earlier this week, the judges selected the Top 12, and many fans were happy to see Nutsa Buzaladze saved at the last moment. The singer's performance of Dreamgirls' 'And I Am Telling You I'm Not I'm Going' struck a chord with viewers and judges alike.

However, Nutsa's impeccable vocals are unfortunately not what the performer is best known for this season. The behind-the-scenes drama of the duet round involving the Georgian singer has garnered its fair share of public attention and criticism.

It all started when Nutsa's stage partner, Carina DeAngelo, alerted the judges that Buzaladze hadn't shown up for their rehearsal.

'Some people wanted to sleep instead of working,' DeAngelo said.

The behind-the-scenes video showed that DeAngelo was deeply upset and thrown off by Buzaladze's behavior. And American Idol fans were quick to criticize Nutsa as well as the judges, especially Katy Perry, who made an unflattering comment about the singer.

'Don't forget about grace. More grace,' Perry told Nutsa.

But was the situation really that bad? Did Nutsa deserve all the criticism that came her way? The video shows that when DeAngelo called Buzaladze, Nutsa was genuinely surprised that they had to rehearse all night. In her Instagram post where Nutsa commented on the situation to American Idol fans and apologized for it, the singer explained that the night rehearsals were extra and she had no idea they were scheduled.

Buzaladze seemed to be okay with how their performance was going when the pair had gotten out of the official rehearsals. However, DeAngelo was not happy with the results, and hearing the panic in her partner's voice, Nutsa quickly gathered herself and showed up. The two stayed up for many hours rehearsing and satisfying DeAngelo's insecurities.

A closer look at the situation reveals that Nutsa's actions were out of respect for her partner, not out of a desire to sabotage her. She didn't complain about staying up for hours, even though she was exhausted after a long flight.

Being the experienced performer and hard worker that she is, Nutsa would never intentionally sabotage her own performance and make herself look bad in front of the judges and the audience. So, most likely, the whole drama was set up to shake up Hollywood Week. And the viewers need to pay attention to Nutsa's talent instead of this scandal that is not worth a plug nickel.

American Idol Season 21 Episode 15 will premiere on April 30, 2023.
