The Yōtei Six won’t go quietly—cornered but unbowed, they’re forcing a showdown that could upend the week’s agenda.

Ghost of Yōtei ditches stances, which means your weapons do the heavy lifting now. Good news: the game is not stingy. From big blades to sneaky gadgets, Atsu can tailor a playstyle that suits whatever chaos you want to cause. Here’s the clean, no-fuss breakdown of every weapon type and exactly how to unlock each one.

The basics

There are three weapon categories and you’ll collect multiple options in each:

Melee for up-close work, Ranged for line-of-sight problem solving, and Quickfire for, well, quick and dirty tricks. Most unlocks are tied to specific quests or questlines, so if something isn’t in your inventory yet, you probably just haven’t tripped the right story flag. A few of these are pretty inside baseball, too, with extremely specific NPCs and quest names, so don’t worry if it feels oddly precise—that’s the point.

Every weapon and how to unlock it

  • Melee - Katana: Default. Atsu starts the game with it.
  • Melee - Dual Katanas: Learned from Master Hanbei after completing the quest The Way of the Dual Katana.
  • Melee - Odachi: Learned from Master Yoshida after completing The Saito Brothers questline.
  • Melee - Yari: Learned from the Yari Master after defeating him during the Pursue the Oni questline.
  • Melee - Kusarigama: Unlocked after defeating the Nine Tails in The Kitsune questline.
  • Ranged - Hankyu: Purchased from Ran the Bowyer after completing the quest The Old Inn.
  • Ranged - Yumi: Also purchased from Ran the Bowyer after completing The Old Inn.
  • Ranged - Tanegashima Matchlock: Unlocked during The Storm Breaks quest, which is part of The Saito Brothers questline.
  • Quickfire - Kunai: Learned from Hana the Kunai Artisan after progressing through the quest The Burning of Castle Ishikari.
  • Quickfire - Smoke Bomb: Unlocked from Oyuki after reaching the quest The Tale of the Kitsune in The Kitsune questline.
  • Quickfire - Metsubushi: Unlocked by defeating Crow Genzo at the Blue-Flowered Cemetery.
  • Quickfire - Tanzutsu: Unlocked after completing the quest Guns and Consequences, available once you’ve progressed through The Saito Brothers questline.
  • Quickfire - Oni Flame: Gained from Mad Goro after progressing through The Oni questline.
  • Quickfire - Blind Bomb: Unlocked from Ina the Bomb Maker after completing the quest Fighting Fire with Fire in The Bomb Maker questline.

What to chase first

If you want flexible melee, the Dual Katanas come online fairly early and feel great. If range is your thing, grab the Hankyu or Yumi from Ran right after The Old Inn to instantly expand your toolkit. And if you love chaos, Quickfire gear like Smoke Bombs and Metsubushi turn tough encounters into easy ambushes. The stance system may be gone, but the buildcraft is alive and well—just follow the quest breadcrumbs.
