Busy morning, hungry people, zero bandwidth for fuss. These toast-bread sausage-and-cheese roll-ups are my go-to: quick to assemble, baked to a crisp, and basically something between a hot sandwich and a mini hot dog. Expect a golden crust on the outside and melty cheese hugging the sausage inside. No mess, big payoff.
What you need (makes 6)
- Toast bread - 6 slices
- Sausages - 6
- Soft or processed cheese - 6 pieces
- Eggs - 2
- Parmesan, finely grated - 30 g
- Spices to taste (pepper, paprika, garlic powder, whatever you like)
How to make it
Whisk the eggs with your spices. Go bold if you want a little kick; the bread and cheese can handle it.
Lightly roll each slice of bread with a rolling pin so it thins out and wraps neatly. You are just flattening it a bit, not turning it into a cracker.
Dip a slice in the egg mixture to coat, lay it flat, then add a piece of cheese and one sausage along the edge.
Roll it up snugly and set it seam-side down. Pop in a toothpick to keep it from uncoiling.
Shower the tops with grated Parmesan for that salty, toasty finish.
Bake at 190°C (about 375°F) for 10–15 minutes, until the bread is golden and the cheese inside is melted.
Serve hot. They disappear fast, so you might want to double it if you have extra people wandering into the kitchen.
