No fuss, all flair: one easy recipe that delivers a showstopping dish for any occasion.

File this under easy win: a simple chicken roll that looks like you fussed, tastes like comfort, and does not hijack your evening. We are talking tender chicken wrapped around a cheesy, herby filling, baked until the edges blush and the center turns melty. It is lighter than frying and flexible enough to meet everyone where they live.

Why this works

Chicken breast plus melted hard cheese and fresh herbs is a classic for a reason. Baking keeps it juicy without the oil bath. The whole thing moves fast, looks festive on a plate, and yes, kids and adults will both go for it. You can also tweak it on the fly: swap in different cheeses, change up the herbs, or throw in extra spices if you are in that mood.

You will need

  • Chicken breast fillets — 4 pieces (about 600 g)
  • Hard cheese — 150 g
  • Fresh herbs (dill, parsley) — 30 g
  • Garlic — 2 cloves
  • Sour cream 15% — 2 tbsp
  • Salt — to taste
  • Ground black pepper — a pinch
  • Ground paprika — 0.5 tsp
  • Vegetable oil — 1 tbsp (for greasing the baking dish)

How to make it

1. Start with the filling. Coarsely grate the cheese. Rinse, dry, and finely chop the herbs. Press or mince the garlic. Stir cheese, herbs, and garlic together with the sour cream, a little salt, and the pepper until you have a cohesive, spoonable mixture.

2. Flatten the chicken. Lightly pound each breast on both sides to about 5 mm thick so it rolls neatly and cooks evenly. Spoon 1–2 tbsp of the filling along one edge of each piece, spread it in a strip, then roll the chicken up. If you are nervous about unrolling, pin each one with a toothpick. No shame in hardware.

3. Prep the pan. Grease a baking dish with the oil. Set the rolls seam-side down so the filling stays inside. Dust the tops with the paprika; it adds a little aroma and earns its keep with the color.

4. Bake. Slide the dish into a preheated 180°C oven for 25–30 minutes. You are looking for light browning on the outside and fully melted cheese inside. Quick doneness check: pierce one roll; the juices should run clear.

Serve it

Bring them to the table hot. They play nicely with mashed potatoes, plain rice, or a crisp salad. A sprinkle of fresh herbs at the end wakes everything up and looks like you planned ahead.
